Common uses for Microzide
Microzide 12.5mg is a thiazide diuretic used to treat high blood pressure. It may be used alone or with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using Microzide
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Microzide 12.5mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE MICROZIDE 12.5mg if you are also taking dofetilide or ketanserin. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital, butalbital), cholestyramine, colestipol, corticotropin, corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), diazoxide, digoxin, other diuretics (eg, furosemide), lithium, other medicines for high blood pressure, medicines for diabetes (eg insulin, glyburide), narcotic pain medicines (eg, codeine), or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen, naproxen). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a history of asthma, diabetes or high blood sugar, gout, high cholesterol or lipid levels, kidney problems, liver problems (eg, cirrhosis), lupus, parathyroid gland problems, allergies (including if you have had an allergic reaction [eg, severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness] to a penicillin antibiotic [eg, amoxicillin]), pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have high or low blood electrolyte levels (eg, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium) or if you are on a low-salt (sodium) diet. USE OF MICROZIDE 12.5mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are unable to urinate. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Microzide 12.5mg.

Directions for Microzide
Follow the directions for using Microzide 12.5mg provided by your doctor. Microzide 12.5mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. MICROZIDE 12.5mg will increase urination. If you are taking 1 dose of Microzide 12.5mg daily, take it in the morning to prevent this from affecting your sleep. If you are taking more than 1 dose daily, take the last dose no later than 6 pm. IF YOU ARE TAKING COLESTIPOL OR CHOLESTYRAMINE for high cholesterol, ask your doctor or pharmacist how to take it with Microzide 12.5mg. STORE MICROZIDE 12.5mg at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. KEEP MICROZIDE 12.5mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF MICROZIDE 12.5mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions for Microzide
DO NOT TAKE MICROZIDE 12.5mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to any ingredient in this product, or to another sulfonamide medicine (eg, sulfamethoxazole). If you have a question about whether you are allergic to Microzide 12.5mg or if a certain medicine is a sulfonamide, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Lab and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Microzide 12.5mg. MICROZIDE 12.5mg MAY AFFECT CERTAIN LAB TEST RESULTS. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use Microzide 12.5mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Microzide 12.5mg. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR before drinking alcohol while taking Microzide 12.5mg; it may add to Microzide 12.5mg's effects. Microzide 12.5mg may decrease the amount of potassium in your body. IF YOUR DOCTOR HAS ALSO PRESCRIBED a potassium supplement for you, follow the dosing directions carefully. Check with your doctor before taking additional potassium on your own or including foods high in potassium (eg, bananas, orange juice) in your diet. MICROZIDE 12.5mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, BLURRED VISION, LIGHTHEADEDNESS, OR FAINTING. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of these effects. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Microzide 12.5mg. Using Microzide 12.5mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. REPORT ANY LIGHTHEADEDNESS OR FAINTING to your doctor immediately. Your risk of lightheadedness or fainting may be increased if you experience diarrhea, vomiting, or excessive sweating, if you do not drink enough fluids, or if you are on a low salt-diet. Contact your doctor at once if any of these events occur. MICROZIDE 12.5mg MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun or sunlamps until you know how you react to Microzide 12.5mg. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU WILL BE EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES. The risk of certain side effects may be increased in hot weather. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING MICROZIDE 12.5mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to its effects. FOR WOMEN: Microzide 12.5mg may cause harm to the fetus. IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Microzide 12.5mg during pregnancy. MICROZIDE 12.5mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Microzide 12.5mg. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Microzide 12.5mg may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Possible side effects of Microzide
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while you are taking Microzide 12.5mg include constipation, diarrhea, dizziness or lightheadedness, loss of appetite, nausea, or temporary blurred vision. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. MICROZIDE 12.5mg MAY RAISE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR. High blood sugar may make you feel confused, drowsy, or thirsty. It can also make you flush, breathe faster, or have a fruit-like breath odor. If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor right away. MICROZIDE 12.5mg IS A SULFONAMIDE. It can cause certain eye problems (myopia, angle-closure glaucoma). Untreated angle-closure glaucoma can lead to permanent vision loss. If these eye problems occur, symptoms usually occur within hours to weeks of starting Microzide 12.5mg. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms such as vision changes (eg, decreased vision clearness) or eye pain. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience dark urine; decreased urination; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; increased thirst; joint pain, swelling, warmth, or redness (especially of the big toe joint); muscle pain, weakness, or cramps; numbness or tingling; red, peeling, blistered, or swollen skin; severe or persistent dizziness or lightheadedness; severe or persistent nausea or stomach pain; shortness of breath; symptoms of low blood sodium levels (eg, confusion, mental or mood changes, seizures, sluggishness); unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual drowsiness, restlessness, tiredness, or weakness; unusually dry mouth; vomiting; or yellowing of the eyes or skin. An allergic reaction to Microzide 12.5mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you take too much Microzide
IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe dizziness, symptoms of dehydration (eg, dry mouth or eyes; decreased urination; fast heartbeat; unusual thirst, tiredness, or weakness), or symptoms of blood electrolyte problems (eg, confusion; irregular heartbeat; mental or mood changes; muscle pain, weakness, or cramping; seizures; sluggishness).

Additional information for Microzide
PATIENTS WHO TAKE MEDICINE FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel "normal." Tell your doctor if you develop any new symptoms. DO NOT SHARE MICROZIDE 12.5mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE MICROZIDE 12.5mg for other health conditions. IF YOU WILL BE USING MICROZIDE 12.5mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
