Do not use
if you have never had a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor
if you have a fever (higher than 100° F), pain in the lower abdomen, back or either shoulder, or foul-smelling vaginal discharge. You should see a doctor for these symptoms.
Ask a doctor before use if you have
vaginal itching and discomfort for the first time
symptoms that return within 2 months. You could be pregnant, or have a serious underlying medical cause for your symptoms, including diabetes or a weakened immune system (which may be due to HIV - the virus that causes AIDS)
When using this product
do not use tampons, douches, spermicides, or other vaginal products
do not use condoms, or diaphragms, as this product may damage them and they may not prevent sexually transmitted disease or pregnancy
do not have vaginal intercourse
wait 3 days after treatment to resume using condoms or a diaphragm
Stop use and ask a doctor if
symptoms do not get better in 3 days

This is great if you feel a yeast infection coming on. If you ignore the symptoms, hoping it won't turn into a full blown infection, then you probably will need a 3 or 7 day treatment if it does turn into a full blown infection! I use this the first night I feel real discomfort, and usually it takes a good 24 hours to completely clear. The prefilled applicator is really convenient and easy to take along when you're travelling too.

Ok, I got a mild yeast infection yesterday and was feeling quite bad. I was feeling much better this morning but thought to my self "I'll go get some of that stuff they have at the supermarket just in case". Little did I know about the torture yet to come. I got home followed the instructions and then went on drugstore.com and looked up Monistat, after reading some of the reviews I thought to my self that people had to be dramatizing their reviews a bit.
Well about 45 minutes later I was in so much pain it was like someone had pored hot sauce all over my private parts and then set me on fire! After rinsing of all I could with ice-cold water and taking some painkillers to soothe the itching I am feeling slightly less on fire (2hrs later). It looks like I'll be spending this Saturday night at home with an ice-cold bottle of Champagne between my legs!
so as you might have read this product will cause severe side effects. for my review I will give advice for those who haven't bought it and some tips that for those that might be in the middle of treatment. before you use - do it at night before you go to bed, don't use the external cream it will make the itching and burning worse.
during treatment - if it gets really bad a cold compress will work but a more effective relief is a warm sitz bath (NO SOAP). You can even let the water out and pour more in again. If it starts again, take another bath. It will stop the itching and burning. Don't wash with soap, in fact try not to touch your vagina at all if you can help it. If it gets really bad you can stick your finger in there and scrape it out (I did the next evening and it appears the treatment is still working.) I repeat don't use the external cream anymore! Last bit of advice, try to sleep as much as you can (if you can), the less you move the better. Keep some tissue nearby to pat dry as needed. If you can get through the first day you'll be in the clear (as far as the pain is concerned). The swelling should go down as well.
I also think the active ingredient amount on here may be incorrect because mine was 1200mg (6 times the dose on the 3 day)

I honestly don't understand why this gets such awful reviews, I have no problem with it. This is the only product I have ever used and will ever use. I experience absolutely no burning and by the next day I experience no signs of having a yeast infection, it clears it up fast in my own honest opinion. Maybe I have a great tolerance for the ingredient everyone else is allergic to.
I thougt I'd buy the most expensive one and get the best product - never thought to check reviews first. I'm now sitting here with an ice pack between my legs it was THAT bad. There should be a warning on the box, please if you're reading this before you buy (like I wish I did) DO NOT USE THIS!!!! I'm taking the empty box and receipt to the store and getting a refund.
Ok, so like other reviews said, this BURNS like CRAZY, but hey it is easier then having to get into see the dr, and then stop and pick up a prescription. It may burn and hurt some, but it does get rid of my yeast infection in 1 day. I do not have time to wait 3 or 7 days for my yeast infections to go away because I get them all of the time(usually once a month, I get them really easy), and I am still in my 20's so my husband and I still like to do adult things together, and I can't wait up to 7 days a month to get back to that. So I can put up with the pain, and usually my yeast infection symptoms are so bad, that the feeling I get from this is no different then what I am already dealing with. I put it in at night and when I wake up in the morning, no more yeast infection.
As earlier users stated, I wish I had read the reviews before I purchased this product!!! I thought there was something wrong with me. I had been on two courses of antibiotics, and was warned by the doctor that it was highly probable that I would get a yeast infection once I finished the antibiotics. So, I developed symptoms and wanted the problem gone sooner than later. I purchased the monistat 1 day treatment, followed the directions, and after 5 days my lower half feels like it's on fire, and the itching is making me crazy. I have been debating whether I should call the doctor, as I can't tell whether it's a chemical burn from the monistat, or whether it is not clearing up the infection. I have never had this problem with any other kind of yeast infection treatment. This product is awful. Do not buy it. Now after spending [$] on treatment, I have to face going to the store and purchasing something else.
I am sitting on an ice pack 7 hours after inserting this awful medication. It is so much more painful than the mild yeast infection that was just beginning. I've tried to get it out but without much luck. The entire time it feels like my vagina and all it's parts are on fire. I told my husband to call the fire department, Do not buy this miracle cure, go for the 7 day at least we know it's just messy and annoying vs SO INCREDIBLY PAINFUL! I'm 10 weeks pregnant, and have enough problems with morning sickness, I don't need this too?!
I wish I had read the reviews of this product before purchasing it. This is my first time using it and wanted to treat my recurring yeast infection without needing to go to the doctor. First of all, do NOT use this during the day. After it melts, you're left with a horrible goopy mess to deal with and any actions such as walking will cause it to leak. Secondly, I thought I had a severe allergic reaction to this but it turns out most people who have tried this, according to the reviews, have had the same HORRIFIC itching/burning that made me simultaneously want to scream and cry. It feels like someone pouring alcohol on a cut, or like tiny shards of glass are inside you. The side effect was 20 times worse than any yeast infection could ever be. Washing it out will only make it slightly better. Basically you just have to suffer until it subsides..I'm writing this 4 hours after I took it... still waiting to see if this actually helps my yeast infection.
Anyone who claims that this product didn't affect them that way or that some of these reviews are exaggerations is WRONG. Do not buy this product or you will regret it. I haven't tried the 3 or 7 day treatments but from what I have found it seems to be a much better alternative to this.
I should have read these reviews before I purchased. I am absolutely miserable from the burning. I can't sit down either and was up at 3am in tears. The infection wasn't as bad as the "cure". I just hope after all this agony that the infection goes away.
This product gave me chemical burns. The other reviewers are NOT exaggerating about the pain. It's worse than the yeast infection I bought it to treat! The burning is UNREAL. --And I'm typing this angry, with an ice pack between my legs.
