Chemical Name: PRIMIDONE (PRIM-i-done)
Mysoline 250mg is an anticonvulsant used to treat or prevent epileptic seizures. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Mysoline 250mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE MYSOLINE 250mg if you are also taking sodium oxybate (GHB). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking stiripentol, valproic acid, anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), aromatase inhibitors (eg, exemestane), beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), clozapine, corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), doxycycline, epothilones (eg, ixabepilone), estrogen, griseofulvin, HIV protease inhibitors (eg, darunavir, lopinavir), hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), maraviroc, metronidazole, MTOR inhibitors (eg, everolimus), NNRT inhibitors (eg, etravirine), oral contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), quinidine, tacrolimus, teniposide, tolvaptan, tyrosine kinase inhibitors (eg, lapatinib), or theophylline. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a history of drug abuse or dependence; mental or mood problems (eg, depression); suicidal thoughts or behaviors; liver problems; lung problems; breathing problems; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you will be receiving anesthesia (eg, methoxyflurane). USE OF MYSOLINE 250mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have the blood disease porphyria. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Mysoline 250mg.
Follow the directions for using Mysoline 250mg provided by your doctor. Mysoline 250mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Take Mysoline 250mg regularly to receive the most benefit from it. Taking Mysoline 250mg at the same time each day will help you to remember. STORE MYSOLINE 250mg at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. CONTINUE TO TAKE MYSOLINE 250mg even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF MYSOLINE 250mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is within 1 hour of your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE MYSOLINE 250mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it, if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product, or if you are allergic to phenobarbital. MYSOLINE 250mg MAY CONTAIN TARTRAZINE DYE (FD&C Yellow No. 5). This may cause an allergic reaction in some patients. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to tartrazine, ask your pharmacist if your product has tartrazine in it. DO NOT STOP TAKING MYSOLINE 250mg without first checking with your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the medicine is suddenly stopped (eg, seizures). Your dose may need to be slowly lowered to avoid side effects. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including blood counts, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Mysoline 250mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Mysoline 250mg. MYSOLINE 250mg MAY CAUSE drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, or vision changes. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Mysoline 250mg. Using Mysoline 250mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. PATIENTS WHO TAKE MYSOLINE 250mg MAY BE AT INCREASED RISK FOR SUICIDAL THOUGHTS OR ACTIONS. This risk may be greater in patients who have had suicidal thoughts or actions in the past. Watch patients who take Mysoline 250mg closely. Contact the doctor at once if new, worsened, or sudden symptoms such as depressed mood; anxious, restless, or irritable behavior; panic attacks; or any unusual change in mood or behavior occur. Contact the doctor right away if any signs of suicidal thoughts or actions occur. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS: Mysoline 250mg may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pills. To prevent pregnancy, you may want to use an additional form of birth control. FOR WOMEN: MYSOLINE 250mg HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Mysoline 250mg during pregnancy. MYSOLINE 250mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Mysoline 250mg.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Mysoline 250mg include drowsiness, dizziness, loss of muscle coordination, nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, or loss of appetite. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience decreased sexual ability; double vision or unusual eye movements; fever; measles-like rash; new or worsening mental or mood changes (eg, anxiety, depression, restlessness, irritability, panic attacks, behavior changes, suicidal thoughts or attempts); new or worsening seizures; or unusual tiredness or weakness. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Mysoline 250mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion, uncontrolled eye movement, and trouble breathing.
DO NOT SHARE MYSOLINE 250mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE MYSOLINE 250mg for other health conditions. KEEP MYSOLINE 250mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING MYSOLINE 250mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
