My allergist recommended this to me years ago because (a) I couldn't use steroidal sprays and (b) oral antihistamines did absolutely nothing to relieve my seasonal allergies. Even though recommendations are to start using this several weeks before the allergy season starts, this year I commenced usage after the season started - after my head was already fully congested. I had significant relief within 24 hours and almost full relief within 48 hours. I couldn't function without this.

The past two weeks, I've had horrendous allergies. I tried Claritin, Zyrtec and Allegra, with minimal relief. Usually one of those will do the trick for me, but not this year.

I figured I'd look online for one last try before going to the doctor for a prescription med. I found the "Wow!" reviews for Nasalcrom, but was still a bit skeptical since my allergies were so bad.

I am so glad I tried it! First day, no real improvement, but thought I'd stick with it since it said it can take a week or two to fully work. Woke up this morning and realized I'd mostly slept through the night (huge improvement) and that my face no longer felt puffy. Sinus pressure is gone!

I'm really blown away it helped so quickly because I was in bad shape. I no longer feel like I have a pumpkin head. Can't recommend Nasalcrom highly enough!

This was available only by prescription at one time. It was a great drug then and it's still is. I use it for seasonal allergies.

You have to use it in the beginning the recommended 3-4 times per day for the first few weeks. After a while you can back off the dosage to as low as you can and still have it be effective. I use two squirts per nostril in the morning, and the evening before I go to bed. This stuff has kept me from getting any illness. I literally have only had a few mild colds (allergies) in 22 years and no flu. I think this stuff is the best drug on earth. If they stop making it, I will learn how to make it myself.

Great stuff that protects you from seasonal allergies. I recommend this to all my family and friends and they are amazed how well it acts after using it regularly for a few days. It takes time to build effectiveness (about 5-7 days), but once it goes into effect, you won't mind that the flowers are blooming and pollen is in the air.

Remember, this won't replace your "immediate relief" allergy medications. But it does build a good, intermediate defense that lessens the effect of what causes allergies.

I cannot live without Nasal Crom. This is the only thing that works for my allergy/sinus conditions. I use it all year round. Works great for Rhinitis. This was recommended on Dr. Weil's site, which is why I tried it in the first place. So glad I did. No more antibiotics for sinus infections. This works like a miracle.

Nasalcrom is a very misunderstood medication. Extremely effective if used properly and ineffective if not. It is the ideal drug--a very long history of safety without the side effects of other meds. It is available without a prescription (or as a generic: cromolyn nasal spray). You must start 3-4 weeks before your season starts (for tree pollen allergy start at least by March 1, for grass pollens start April 1, and for ragweed, start the third week in July); use it once or twice in each nostril at least twice daily regularly. When the season starts increase to 3-4 times daily or even every 3 hours if needed. Don't stop even if you are feeling fine; continue until the season of your hay fever is well over. There's no harm in using Nasalcrom indefinitely. If you have started early enough you may not need any other meds but if you do have some symptoms you may use any other meds--antihistamines or steroid nasal sprays-- but keep on with the Nasacort (if using other sprays, allow 1-2 hours between the two sprays).If you are unfortunate enough to have a runny nose year 'round, you may use Nasalcrom regularly 1-2 times daily. In 30 years of allergy practice, I found that patients who exactly followed the above directions had excellent relief. The problem arises when a patient starts using Nasalcrom when they are having hay fever; the Nasalcrom will just wash out and will not help. Nasalcrom seems to have a long term protective effect--patients who used it properly and faithfully appeared to have less and less difficulty over the years. (For eye symptoms you may also use cromolyn eye drops twice daily regularly and other eye drops if needed.) The important message: you must have the discipline to use Nasalcrom regularly during a month before the allergy season when you are not having any symptoms.

I am a long time nasal allergy/asthma sufferer, I have had so many infections and surgeries that I have little of my membranes left to protect from irritation and infections, but using Nasal Crom on a regular basis pre fall and pre spring along with my daily Singulair tablet has significantly reduced my annual sinus infections to near zero.

This medicine REQUIRES DILIGENCE - daily use three to four times in the weeks before your seasonal allergies begin, and diligent use two or three times a week during the season is necessary to maintain protection.

Side effects are minimal, in fact neither my son or I have ever experienced any kind of effect beyond relief. This can be used by a child but for them I prefer the Cromolyn Sodium inhaled solution - and am in fact going to ask my doctor to prescribe Cromolyn Sodium Inhaled solution for my winter asthma months.
