50 Mcg Nasal Spray
Chemical Name: MOMETASONE (moe-MET-a-sone)

Common uses for Nasonex
Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension is a corticosteroid. Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension is used for treating and preventing allergic nasal symptoms including congestion, sneezing, itching, and runny nose. It is also used for treatment of growths in the nose (nasal polyps).

Before using Nasonex
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including active or inactive tuberculosis (TB); a positive skin test for TB; diarrhea; a bacterial, fungal, or viral infection (eg, measles or chickenpox); a herpes infection in or around the eye; an immune system problem; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have recently received a vaccination or have recently had nasal sores, nasal surgery, or a nasal injury. Tell your doctor if you have a history of glaucoma, increased pressure in the eye, or other eye problems (eg, cataracts). USE OF NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a sore in your nose or your nose has not healed after recent nasal surgery or injury. Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension should not be used in CHILDREN younger than 2 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension.

Directions for Nasonex
Follow the directions for taking Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension provided by your doctor. An extra patient leaflet is available with Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION IS USED IN THE NOSE. BEFORE USING NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION THE FIRST TIME, pump it up to 10 times or until a fine mist appears. If Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension has not been used for more than 1 week, prime it by pumping it 2 times or until a fine mist appears before using it. SHAKE WELL BEFORE EACH USE. USE NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION AT REGULAR INTERVALS exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. BLOW YOUR NOSE GENTLY to clear passages before using Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension. Spray into each nostril as directed. AVOID SPRAYING INTO THE EYES, MOUTH, OR DIRECTLY ONTO THE NASAL SEPTUM. AFTER USING NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION, wipe the applicator with a clean tissue and replace the lid. THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT OF NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION is usually achieved within 1 to 2 weeks. Contact your doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve. IF NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION IS BEING USED TO PREVENT SEASONAL ALLERGY SYMPTOMS, begin treatment 2 to 4 weeks before the expected start of the pollen season. USE NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE to get the most benefit from it. STORE NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION out of the reach of children and away from pets. CONTINUE TO USE NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION EVEN IF YOU FEEL WELL. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Cautions for Nasonex
DO NOT USE NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. NASAL EXAMS may be performed while you use Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor appointments. DO NOT USE NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION more often or for a longer time than your doctor recommended. CORTICOSTEROIDS MAY SOMETIMES lower your resistance to infection. Talk with your doctor if you have questions about whether Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension may affect your ability to fight infection. IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD CHICKENPOX OR MEASLES, avoid contact with anyone who has either of these diseases. If you are exposed, contact your doctor at once. FUNGAL INFECTIONS IN THE NOSE AND THROAT have occurred in patients who use Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension. Contact your doctor if you experience any redness or white patches in the nose or throat or symptoms of infection (eg, fever, chills, persistent cough or sore throat). NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION MAY DELAY WOUND HEALING. Do NOT use Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension if you have a sore in your nose or your nose has not healed after recent nasal surgery or injury. Contact your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about this information. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE A SORE IN YOUR NOSE or if you have had recent nasal surgery or an injury that has not healed. USE OF NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF DEVELOPING GLAUCOMA OR CATARACTS. You may need to have regular eye exams while using Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension. Tell your doctor if you notice changes in your vision. TELL YOUR DOCTOR OR DENTIST that you take Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. CORTICOSTEROIDS MAY AFFECT GROWTH RATE in children and adolescents in some cases. They may need regular growth checks while they use Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension. Talk with your doctor if you have questions about whether or not Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension may affect your child's growth. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Nasonex
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension include: burning or irritation inside the nose; coughing; headache; muscle and joint pain; nosebleed or pink color to the mucus; painful menstruation; sinus pain or pressure; sore throat; upper respiratory tract infection; vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION RIGHT AWAY if any of these SEVERE side effects occur: chest pain; dizziness or fainting; redness or white patches in the mouth, nose, or throat; severe or persistent nausea or vomiting; sores in the nose; symptoms of infection (eg, fever, chills, persistent cough or sore throat, ear pain); unusual tiredness or weakness; vision changes; wheezing. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Nasonex 50mcg/act Suspension is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

IF YOU WILL BE USING NASONEX 50mcg/act SUSPENSION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
