I have been using another brand and thought I would give this Nature Made product a try. Now I know what fish burps are. yuk! I'll go back to my usual brand.

I first began using this product when I was on a diet and had nutritional deficiencies that made my hair fall out. I read that omega fatty acids helped this problem, so I thought this was a good product to try because it had all three types of fatty acids. It actually helped reduce the hairloss associated with the diet, which was a big benefit. The pills are large, which can make it difficult to take. And, if the pills burst before they reach your stomach, a fishy after taste does come back to haunt you, but I found this to be only an occasional occurance (maybe once a month?). I also learned that, even though pills like these are made from fish, they do not contain significant sources of mercury, so that is reassuring. I would recommend these pills as a dietary supplement if you could tolerate the size and occasional fishy after taste.

I give my kids Animal Parade 3/6/9, which is an omega oil supplement intended for kids. My kids are vegetarian, so their pediatrician recommends giving them omega oil supplements. Flax oil is hard to directly mix into foods and still taste good - kind of lemony and bland. So when I found the Animal Parade 3/6/9, and found that my kids actually like the taste, I had found a solution. The problem though is that Animal Parade 3/6/9 is expensive and hard to find. As of the writing of this review (March 22, 2009), Drugstore.com does not carry it. :(
Drugstore.com does carry Nature Made Triple Omega, which is very similar in omega oils, albeit a bit larger doses. It's also cheaper than the Animal Parade pills. So I figured we'd give it a try.
When the Nature Made pills arrived one of my sons helped me open the package and was excited at the prospect of larger omega pills. We decided to both try one and see how they are. What a surprise we had. The Nature Made ones taste like fish oil, in a really bad way. Both of us were totally grossed out by the flavor, which wasn't just bad, but lingered on the palette for hours. :(
I think the difference in flavor of the Nature Made versus the Animal Parade is that Nature Made uses real fish oil, whereas the Animal Parade pills use some other (vegetable?) source of omega oils.
So we're sticking with the Animal Parade pills. I hope Drugstore.com carries them at some point. As for the Nature Made pills, if you are willing to put up with a really nasty fish oil flavor to get your omega oils then go for it - they're probably plenty good for you even if the flavor is not.
