I never write reviews but I have to for this. I just ran into this brand at an organic store. I usually just buy the regular Coppertone, Hawaiian Tropic or Nivea sunblocks, the common brand available in my area. I live near the equator so yes, tropical weather year round. That's not why I bought it though. I decided to try this because one, it said VERY WATER RESISTANT on it, and two, it was a reasonable price compared to the common brands I use. I've gotten into wakeboarding the past couple of years, and for the first time I didn't mind being under the sun for so long. I didn't mind that I had a tan year round. Though I live in a tropical country, I'm a fair skinned person who hardly got any sun. But since taking up the sport, I had a nice tan that suit me almost year round. But I know the dangers of the sun, so I always tried to stay out from noon to 3pm, and I prayed to find a great sunblock that made me feel like its really protecting me. I knew this product worked because my last trip I was out for 10 days, going from one beach to another and then wakeboarding. About 5 days into the trip (using this sunblock from day 1) my sister looked at me and said I was so white. I was like "my new sunblock must really work then". I put it on just twice a day, being out in the sun almost all day. It is more difficult to put on then others, but I think thats what makes it special. Thats what makes it work. So, its a small price to pay to keep your skin extra protected. And you don't need to use a lot, since its so concentrated. If you squeeze the bottle like you would a normal Hawaiian Tropic Sun Junk bottle, watch out, you'll end up having a white paste on your skin, or better look for someone to spread the rest on. Lol. From now on, each time I wakeboard I'll probably have a bottle of this. My last few days of my trip though, I only put it on in the morning and just used regular sunblock to follow later during the day. Going island hoping for 10 days, I still wanted to get a tan to show off, and it worked. Imagine if I didn't have it though, I probably would have been burnt and black by the end of my trip, LOL. My suggestion, if you really care about your skin, if you can't go out under the sun because of worries about the effects of the sun on your skin, this is what you need to buy and use, to start enjoying a little sun now and then. =)

Shame on you, Nature's Gate! I expected much more from SPF 50. How on earth did you come up with that factor? First, it took almost an hour and a half to dry, which was suspicious. If it couldn't even dry, how was it going to stay on enough to protect me from the sun? I didn't go out until it was dry, but it didn't end up mattering. I now have ugly strap marks and my legs look like they're stained with dark pantyhose. It will probably take months for the ugly tan to fade, and until then, I'll have to use some sort of tinted sunblock to cover it up. My stretch marks stand out now that my skin is dark. I look like a piece of bacon. I was in the pool for less than two hours!! and this was after 4 pm, so not even peak sunburn time. My boyfriend used this on his face and he got burnt red as a lobster. Don't buy this, don't trust it!! I am still on the search for a legitimate sunblock that does not make my skin itch or claim SPF when it doesn't seem to have any. We may as well have used plain ol' body oil before swimming. I want my money back!!!

It is not a good product for acne prone skin. It is very oily and increases skin acne. I would not recommend in case your skin is prone to acne or is oily.

Comments about Nature's Gate Aquablock Sunscreen, SPF 50, 4 fl oz:

I've been using this sunblock for several years and it works very well to prevent not only burning, but to prevent tanning, too, which is my preference. It is greasy, though, and somewhat difficult to rub in. You have to use a lot to get it to soak in, and rub well to get rid of the white tint and make sure you don't miss any spots so you don't end up striped like one reviewer noted (if you miss spots during application of *any* sunblock you'll end up burning or tanning unevenly). It's excellent stuff but now I'm going to try this brand's Sportblock SPF 50 Dry Finish that I've just seen here on DS.com. Some of the reviews for it say it's difficult to rub in, too, but I'm hoping it's less greasy than this one. Either way I know I'll have good sun protection.

Comments about Nature's Gate Aquablock Sunscreen, SPF 50, 4 fl oz:

It's mostly sweatproof and very waterproof. It's pretty tough to rub in, especially over arm/leg hair. You will probably end up looking a little paler than usual. It's so waterproof that some shower gels won't take it off after a workout--really gotta scrub. But, I have never gotten a sunburn while using it. I'd say that's the mark of good sunscreen. Also, it gets good marks from the Environmental Working Group for having few carcinogens, so you won't get cancer while trying to avoid cancer like when using the more traditional brands.

Best sunscreen I have ever used. My Dermatologist recommended that I use a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide as an ingredient, as he considers this "real sunscreen". He is right. I burn easily and live in Florida, and I have not had a sunburn at all since using this product for the past couple years. It stays on well even when I'm swimming or sweating heavily outdoors on a hot day. Comes off easily with a good washcloth scrub of SOAP and water. Applies on the skin a bit heavy at first, but blends in ok after 5 minutes; I don't mind this because this stuff WORKS.

I wear Aquablock when swimming and/or working out and it never runs or stings my eyes. Does NOT have a mat finish which I don't like, but doesn't come off swimming or sweating so no worries when working out. Very gentle mineral formula that my very fair-complected children also wear without any irritation. Rated it four stars just because it's not a mat finish.

I've tried over 20 brands of water-resistant sunblocks for surfing. This is one of only two products that prevents any sunburning or redness after two hours of surfing in California summer. I also like that this brand also has no unpleasant fragrance. It does cause a mild white hue on your skin. Be advised that it is so water-proof that is difficult to remove with soap and water. I use makeup-removing cleansers (containing some oil) to remove it from my face quickly. I have never gotten burned while using this product. I would feel confident surfing even in tropical conditions, though I have not yet done so.

I live at 9,000 ft so sun protection is critical. I'm also very active, biking, hiking, mountaineering, etc... so I need something that handles high activity levels. I use this exclusively on my arms and legs. It definitely handles hard workouts. I find it a bit heavy/greasy for the face, so I do use a different product there. But a little bit goes a long way, and I've tried quite a few suncare products off drugstore.com and found this to be the best for me. Doesn't turn you ghost white either, but it will attract dirt - if you care about something like that. For me, I just want a great sunblock that protects my active lifestyle.

I love this sunscreen. My first run with it was a two dive day in Guam. Even with the intense sun and warm water, no burn. I came up from my first dive - a 40 minute, 30 meter dive - with the water beading off my legs. The sunscreen was still on and still working! No need to reapply between dives. After my second dive, I added a second layer just to be safe, but this was hours and gallons of water later! It's great to know that I'm using a natural, useful product. It does go on really thickly and leaves the skin slightly white, but it's not too noticeable against my already fair skin. Perhaps if you are darker, it will look a bit odd. The only other down side is the difficulty I've had getting the white lotion out of my black swimsuit. The waterproof works almost too well as it's still held up on my suit after several washings. Even to wash it off my body I had to have a good scrub down with my loofah and body wash. When they say waterproof, they mean waterproof!

Took this stuff on a 5 day backpacking trip. One application each morning withstood all the sweating and swimming during the day. Takes a little more work to rub in than chemical sunscreens but for me it's worth it not to be bathed in chemicals. Doesn't feel too greasy or heavy and doesn't have that sunscreen smell.
