I took this regularly (3 pills a day), and never got my period after going through the entire bottle. For that reason, I would say it is not effective, or wasn't for me. I had no side effects, it just didn't work for me.

I have been a bcp user since my cycle first started due to the pain of cramps. Between the years of me ranging 21-25 I was on and off with bcp, I was concerned with conceiving, my weight was increasing rapidly, and my cycles were still a little crazy....it would come and then be gone for a very long perid of time (my cycle was my very bad boyfriend) when it did come, it stayed for weeks, some times months, and was very heavy. I went to a specialist and was diagnosed with PCOS and my prolactin levels are high.....all the things you don't want to hear especially when you know that you want to have a child some day. I started looking for natural ways to lower your prolactin levels because $1700 for a MRI on my brain was out of the question. I found Vitex, read the reviews and thought to give it a try. I started taking 3 a day on 4/22/2012, I started spotting the very same day and on 4/25/2012 I had consistent flowing and my cycle went off on the 4/29/2012, I had the biggest smile on my face THANK GOD FOR A REGULAR CYCLE!!! I continued to take 3 a day until 6/3/2012, I decreased it to 2 vitex capsules a day. I have had a cycle every month since starting Vitex and they have all been normal. It feels like Vitex is reversing everything that birth control pills have done to my body and that is a great feeling!!! Im looking forward to my future............I can see children in my future. Anyone who decides to take Vitex should understand this is a GRADUAL supplement. This is not an immediate supplement. I don't think it's fair to dismiss is after only 3 weeks of use, when clearly on the directions for use, it instructs you to take 3 capsules a day for 8 weeks, then 1 capsule a day (for up to a year!).

I am using Vitex along with Dong Quai Root (which is also amazing) to regulate my hormones after stopping the evil, evil, horrible birth control pill. I can not express how bad the pill is for you, and how much it messes up your natural body. My hormones were completely off the wall when stopping the pill..it has been about 9 months since stopping.

Vitex and Dong Quai have helped regulate my periods, aide my insane hormones which were causing me to have 15 nights a month of terrible sleep, and also help my my hormonal acne which is like clock-work.

I am hoping after a little longer with the Vitex (it's been about 2.5 months since I've been taking it), my hormonal acne will not be as nutty, but I can tell you it has already improved compared to when I was not taking Vitex.

I went off the pill at 41 in December after being on for 13 years. I gained 6 pounds in a few months while increasing my workouts and eating exactly the same. I tried taking Dim with no results and after reading about Vitex thought I'd give that a try. I have actually backed off my workouts a bit due to a hip injury. I've been taking it for almost a month now and have lost 5 pounds. It seemed like I gained it all around my stomach and I've never had issues with weight gain there. I didn't had my periods since September 2011 and I was diagnosed with PCOS on Jan 31st 2012. I started taking 3 pills of Vitex per day from Feb 2nd, and on Mar 8th I got my periods (after six long months) . Vitex works great, just give it some time to act on your body. I have read that it may take from 4-6 weeks to regulate your periods, after that you just have to take 1 pill per day. After spending tons of cash on various treatments since last year, I found Vitex which works great and for a great price.

Vitex is wonderful if your cycles are irregular and/or too short. BUt please see a healthcare provider or herbalist to get the right dose for you - It is not a miracle fertility drug and should be used only for the proper conditions (it could make your specific issue worse, if it isn't the right herb for you). It also won't work overnight. I took it for several months before I noticed any improvement, and I was directed to take it for a year as part of an integrative medicine program that combined needed surgery, plus herbs for healing and balance.
