I have been reading a ton of reviews dissing this product because it doesn't lather and doesn't clean effectively. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT MEANT TO LATHER. It is a LOTION cleanser and it DOES clean effectively. A lot of people assume that if it doesn't lather it's not cleaning. This is NOT true.

I absolutely love this cleanser! I use it day and night to clean my face and neck. It is very gentle and cleans thoroughly. I typically use between 1.5-2 pumps when I cleanse. I will say though that this is not the cleanser to use if you want to remove makeup. I found that out the hard way by having to cleanse twice and use my Dickinson's Pore Perfecting Toner to successfully remove my makeup. Instead, I use Dickinson's towelettes to remove my makeup (close to all natural aside from one ingredient).

This product is soap-free but it does have a light soap scent to it. This doesn't bother me but might others. There is no added parfume or fragrance in this product.

I use Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser every morning and evening to wash my face and get it ready for creams and lotions I apply at bedtime or to start my day. I used to use a 2x more expensive retinol cleansing milk, but I get the same beneficial results from the Neutrogena product at a more reasonable price. I would not switch from this because I love how my skin looks and feels after using it.

I get very dry, rough skin in the Winter. This is the only cleanser I have found that keeps my skin from drying in the cold air. The other reviewers are right, it's like washing your face with lotion, it doesn't lather at all. But, it rinses off clean, it doesn't leave your skin oily. This is the best cleanser I have found for dry skin.

I just bought this yesterday at [@] and used it for the first time last night and I enjoyed using it, and really love the fragrance-free type scent...it still smells good! I promise you that I woke up today and my face still felt clean! That means there is something different and wonderful about this product! It cleanses without being too harsh(if you use really harsh products that can make your skin overproduce oil). The only oil this product has in it is a GOOD kind of oil(Castor Oil). I tried using this product and found that there is no lather whatsoever. It's just like washing your face with moisturizer, not a cleanser.

Using this product is like using a stale smelling lotion to try and remove your makeup. This product does not foam up at all, nor does it remove my makeup. Also, it caused my face to break out - not good!

- First I tried the recommended method of wetting face and hands, then massage the product into my skin and rinse. That did not remove my makeup and left my skin feeling clogged!
- Next I tried the "tissue off" method. It was messy, smelly and required a good rinsing and toweling afterward. Makeup that was supposed to have been removed smeared all over my good towel.

**I recommend using Neutrogena's Oil-Free Makeup Removing Cleanser. It foams up nicely, removes all makeup (even eye makeup), and leaves skin feeling clean and soft. Maybe Drugstore.com will carry it soon -I had to find it elsewhere.

I have been using this cleanser on my face on a daily basis for years; I've tried other products in the past, but nothing works as well. I have sensitive skin and Rocasea and this product is nonirritating. Just apply to your face and gentle wipe it off. no water or scrubbing necessary.

I use this product to wash my face twice a day, and I am seeing some great results. I have generally oily and very sensitive skin, and this product is working well for me.
