I typically don't chose to use a toner in my skin regimen, but when I do feel the need to boost my regimen; this is the toner I chose to use! If your skin is not used to Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) please note that they are just that – acids, and they will irritate the skin causing an uncomfortable burning and/or stinging sensation, initially leaving your skin looking a bit red, like you've been slapped. That all goes away with use and time.

This product has Glycolic Acid (an AHA fantastic for evening skin tone and texture) and Salicylic Acid (a BHA used in this product to reduce the size of pores). No where have I been able to find out exactly how much of each this product contains though. 5% is good, 10% is best but hard to find, 2% is the OTC norm but generally ineffective for long term purposes. My best guess is that this product contains 1% of each since it has two separate types of acids. Don't expect much more from this product that what the name suggests – Pore Refining .. and I think you'll be pleased with it =)

WARNING:- Although it contains some really good products like AHA, BHA, SODIUM PCA (a natural moisturizing agent found in all living cells), ALOE VERA (a natural anti-irritant and moisturizer) and ALLANTOIN (an anti-irritant that helps to retain moisture, increases smoothness, promotes healing, and is an acne fighter) it also contains some really "iffy" ingredients like WITCH HAZEL (a soothing compound that can be irritating to some), EUCALYPTUS (an anti-inflammatory that kills bacteria but also can be irritating), PEPPERMINT (a known skin irritant with cooling properties that supposedly can help reduce itching - why you would need that in a Toner I don't know!) and the most disturbing of the bunch yet listed dead last before "fragrance" so the product should contain very little of the offending ingredient .. PEG 40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL (a highly disputed "natural" (if you consider castor oil that's been treated with a carcinogenic petroleum based chemical natural) product generally not considered safe for use on injured or damaged skin!)

If you're worried about over drying, irritating, or applying carcinogens to your skin daily you should probably use this product as I do .. only occasionally.

When I first started using this I loved it. It does a good job of removing leftover traces of makeup after washing my face and it makes you skin feel incredibly smooth and soft. However after using this for about 3 weeks, my skin is becoming very sensitive to it. It has started to make my skin literally sting after use, especially around my cheek area and forehead. I have not changed anything about my skin routine so this is a really big let down. Will not be repurchasing!

I've been using this toner for years, and the Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Formula does exactly what the description says it will do: Sweeps away dead surface skin cells, smooths over rough uneven patches, penetrates deep into pores to reduce their appearance. I use square white quilted cotton pads (not balls) to apply the toner. It removes all traces of make-up, dirt and grime from the face.

I've bought this before and loved it, so was glad to get it again. I like that it has the alpha hydroxy which improves my skin. I use after cleaning and before moisturizing as part of my semi-normal facial routine.

I use this twice daily. In the morning after I wash my face and in the evening before I go to bed. This tones my skin and helps minimize my pores. I put my skin cream on and I'm all set.

I use this each time after I wash my face. It gets all that "residual" dirt and leaves my face so clean yet does not dry it out.

I find this just an average product. It doesn't do anything bad to my skin, nor does it do anything really great for my skin.

I do not find my pores smaller. I also do not find a decrease in blackheads nor clogged pores.

It has a very harsh alcohol smell. I have learned to hold my breath whenever I'm applying it, if not I'd choke on the smell. However, it leaves a very strong and perfumey scent when it dries, which I quite like because that means my face smells nice!

I recently had a break out of tiny pimples across my forehead (NOT blaming this product) but I was disappointed to see that this toner did nothing to prevent the break out in the first place!

If you're looking for a solution to problem skin, this might not be the answer. I rate it as a regular toner and not a toner to cure any type of problem skin.

I wanted to step up my toner, as I was using Neutrogena alcohol free toner, and wanted something that had a little more kick to it, and this is the one! It seems to remove much more from my face - judging from what I see on the cotton ball - and leaves a wonderful finish after. Although it contains 35% alcohol, which is kinda high, it's balanced by the glycolic and salicylic acids which are both very good for controlling problem skin and refining it at the same time.

I also have tried two other Neutrogena toners/astringents which weren't quite right for my skin type (50+ combination): Neutrogena alcohol-free toner (too wimpy) and Neutrogena Clear Pore, which was so harsh it practically burned the skin right off my face... So, this one is perfect.
