If your skin is not used to Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) please note that they are just that – acids, and they will irritate the skin causing an uncomfortable burning and/or stinging sensation, initially leaving your skin looking a bit red, like you've been slapped. It does a good job of removing leftover traces of makeup after washing my face and it makes you skin feel incredibly smooth and soft. However after using this for about 3 weeks, my skin is becoming very sensitive to it. It has started to make my skin literally sting after use, especially around my cheek area and forehead. I have not changed anything about my skin routine so this is a really big let down. Will not be repurchasing! I don't think it's anything special. I've noticed no difference in my pores or blackheads or anything really. Not a bad product, but nothing different than other items on the market. He advised me to use Alpha Hydroxy. So following my Doctors orders, I purchased the Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser and Toner with Alpha and Beta Hydroxy. And as of today after using this product for about 1 month, I can no longer see the sun damage at the end of my nose. Not only does my face feel cleaner but it also cleared up some minor acne I had. I highly recommend this product. BHA is salicylic acid, the anti-inflammatory ingredient in aspirin. Excellent for daily use to soothe and exfoliate skin between glycolic peels, and awesome to use right after eyebrow waxing - soothes the angry red skin and prevents any reaction/inflammation. Hate the smell, but love the effects, so I deal with it. I have very oily skin prone to blackheads that requires daily exfoliation. This stuff cleans and refines open pores wonderfully, but blackheads are impurities trapped in closed-over pores. Use a scrub to open the pores and dig out the impurities, then use this Toner to soothe and refine. I use this along with the pore refining cleanser also from Neutrogena and they have both worked to minimize the pores. My face is also smooth and clear. I now have my daughter who is a teen using it, and I notice a big difference. Not only is it clearing up her skin, but the old scars on her face seem to be getting less noticeable. The only drawback is it doesnt seem to do much for the blackheads. Good product though! It's no different from the many other toners on the market. It clears away dirt and make up from my face; it makes my face fee like it can breathe. I also use it in conjunction with the pore refining face wash, and they both make my pores smaller and smoother after use. The salicylic acid in it is helping the spots on my face and they are reducing in size and color with continuous use. The glycolic acid also refines my pores. I only gave it 4 stars because it does refine my pores but not around my nose area where my annoying blackheads reside. But it isn't really much of a problem for me, because I can easily get rid of them with a scrub. Also, it smoothes out my skin; I could hardly feel any tiny bumps around my face. Those that have dry skin may not be a good candidate for this product because it does have drying agents (salicylic acid). This might be good for someone who has both oily skin and large pores. It makes my skin feel tingly afterwards and does not dry it out. However, the problem with this is I have combination skin, and my T-zone is my trouble spot. Therefore, my nose gets filled with blackheads and chin area as well every couple of weeks.
