This product actually does what it says. I have tried all the sunscreens that promise not to clog pores or cause skin breakouts. Many promise unobtrusive sunscreen unnoticeable under makeup. None delivered. They become greasy and shiny over a brief period of time and by the end of the day my skin has new breakouts. HOWEVER, Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry-Touch Sunblock ACTUALLY IS 1) ultra sheer - I've put it on in the morning and then put it on a second time thinking I'd forgotten to put it on the first time, as it's so sheer and matte; 2) dry-touch: there is no greasy feel, oily sheen, or buildup of oil over the day with this product. It STAYS dry and matte, and is so light I really can't tell it's there. It works great under Chanel foundation too. Also, I sail and need a sunscreen that protects my skin from all that light reflected off the water. This has prevented any hyper pigmentation, which can be a problem. I'm just so happy something actually does what it says it does!

A common problem w/ sunscreen usage is people put on too little. Unfortunately, when I try to put on the 'recommended' amount, it doesn't dry and looks greasy, until I put foundation powder over it. At least, it doesn't get clumpy and flake off when I do that, unlike some other sunscreens. If I use a lot less product, it does live up to the sheer (though not completely dry) claim, but that's not good practice, is it, even at SPF 45? The worst thing for me is that, maybe it's the eye cream I put on before hand, this stuff runs into my eyes and irritates them the entire day, so I look red-eyed. I'm still on the hunt for a good sunscreen.
I put aha (alpha hydroxy acid) on my face so must use a good sunscreen immediately after. This one goes on like a moisturizer. Non greasy with great protection. I highly recommend it.
What's exceptional is that it feels nice on my face even when I'm hot and sweaty! I don't look as wet as with other sun protectors, and it does a good job of protecting my skin. This one keeps rising to the top of my daily regimen!
Did this keep me from getting a sunburn? Yes. It appears to be sweatproof and waterproof, too. The problem is that even if you rub it in REALLY well it dries white. I don't mean you end up looking like Casper, I mean that in little creases (like your elbow, or on your neck) it is visibly white. I threw out the rest of the tube at the end of our vacation. Also, I don't think it was as non-greasy as advertised.
I purchased this sunscreen to use daily on my oily, sensitive face and my neck and hands. It met all my requirements: a UVA/UVB-blocking chemical sunscreen (since mineral sunscreens tend to leave a white cast), antioxidants, few emollients/a dry feel, and little or no fragrance or other irritants.
This product is great for anyone with oily skin – it really does look and feel matte after application, but I wouldn't recommend this to someone with dry, or sensitive skin.
This sunscreen stings the skin near my eyes. It stings all-over after I use a chemical exfoliant, or if my skin is unusually dry. Not a tingle, either, a dear-god-get-it-off sting. Despite the popular notion that avobenzone causes the stinging, for me it was the oxybenzone.
I have since switched to an avobenzone sunscreen without oxybenzone (Olay Complete Ageless Skin Renewing UV Lotion) and had no problems. The Neutrogena went to a friend with more resilient skin.
It probably works alright, but I can't stand the old lady perfume smell. I'm sensitive to a lot of products and this one didn't seem to bother me, except for the smell.
Neutrogena DRY TOUCH products are really good overall, and I've been using them for years. However, I have one beef with the formulation of these products: they're NOT waterproof!! Come on, Neutrogena, I know you have chemists who work there. Can't come up with a waterproof - REALLY waterproof - sunblock??? If you did, the product would be flying off the shelves.
I've read the reviews, and that's one of the primary complaints. The other complaints concern a residue. Those folks are probably using too much...
I can use it everyday before going out in the California sunshine because it goes on without staining my clothes or feeling too heavy but gives sun protection I need.
Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure. For added protection, reapply after swimming, excessive perspiration, towel drying or extended sun exposure.
