Chemical Name: NITROGLYCERIN (NYE-troe-GLIS-er-in)
Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches is a nitrate used for preventing chronic chest pain caused by heart disease. It also may be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES IF you are taking a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (eg, sildenafil). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), calcium channel blockers (eg, diltiazem), diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), medicines for high blood pressure, phenothiazines (eg, thioridazine), salicylates (eg, aspirin), or alteplase. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including anemia, low blood pressure, dehydration, low blood volume, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have a history of other heart problems (eg, heart failure, enlarged heart, heart attack); overactive thyroid; stroke or other bleeding in the brain; or recent head injury. Tell your doctor if you drink alcoholic beverages. USE OF NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are allergic to the adhesive that makes the patch stick to your skin; you have increased pressure in or severe injury to the head; or if you have severe anemia. Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches is not recommended for use in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches.
Follow the directions for taking Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches provided by your doctor. AN EXTRA PATIENT LEAFLET is available with Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES IS FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Apply the patch at the same time every day. WASH YOUR HANDS thoroughly before and after applying the patch. APPLY THE PATCH TO a non-hairy area of the chest, inner side of the upper arm, back, or shoulder. CLEAN AND COMPLETELY DRY THE SKIN BEFORE APPLYING the patch. If necessary, hair should be removed by clipping or lightly shaving. Remove the patch from the package. Apply with a firm pressure to the skin. TO AVOID SKIN IRRITATION, change the treatment site daily. DO NOT APPLY TO irritated or damaged skin. IF THE PATCH BECOMES LOOSE, remove it and apply a new patch at a different site. AFTER REMOVING THE USED PATCH, fold it in half with the sticky sides together. Discard the patch out of the reach of children and away from pets. THIS PATCH SHOULD ONLY BE WORN FOR UP TO 12 TO 14 HOURS A DAY, or as directed by your doctor, so that you will have a 10 to 12 hour "nitrate-free" period each day. Do not use more of Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches than prescribed. It is important to have a "nitrate-free" period of time each day for Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches to continue to work well and to decrease the risk of physical dependence. STORE NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
DO NOT USE NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES IF you are allergic to any ingredient in Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. WHEN USED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches may not work as well. Increasing the dose is not effective in managing tolerance to Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. Talk with your doctor if Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches stops working well. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches for longer than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP USING NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES without first checking with your doctor. If you suddenly stop using Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches you may get withdrawal symptoms (eg, chest pain, heart attack, sudden death). Be sure to have a "nitrate-free" period each day to help prevent tolerance, dependence, and withdrawal. LAB TESTS, including heart function, blood pressure, and blood electrolyte levels, may be performed while you use Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, LIGHTHEADEDNESS, OR BLURRED VISION. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU DRINK ALCOHOL while you are taking Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. Drinking alcohol may increase the risk of low blood pressure with Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, LIGHTHEADEDNESS, OR FAINTING. Sit down while taking Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches to avoid falling caused by lightheadedness or dizziness. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY IF YOU DEVELOP slow heartbeat or new or worsening chest pain after you take Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. TELL YOUR DOCTOR OR DENTIST THAT YOU TAKE NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES MAY GIVE YOU DAILY HEADACHES. This should become less noticeable with time. OTHER DOSAGE FORMS OF NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES (eg, sublingual, or under the tongue, tablets) may not work as well while you are taking Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches. NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES TAKES ABOUT 1 TO 2 HOURS TO START WORKING and should not be used for a sudden chest pain attack. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Use Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches while you are pregnant. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES IS FOUND in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches include dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting when sitting up or standing; flushing of face and neck; headache; irritation at site of patch; nausea; or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blurred vision; dry mouth; fainting; flushing; heavy sweating; irregular heartbeat; new or worsening chest pain; pale skin; pounding in the chest; rapid heartbeat; severe dizziness or headache; severe or persistent nausea or vomiting; shortness of breath; slow heartbeat; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; or unusual weakness. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Nitro-Dur 30 0.8mg/hr Patches is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If overdose is suspected, remove the patch. Contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include cold or blue skin; confusion; diarrhea; excessive sweating; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; persistent throbbing headache; seizures; trouble breathing; vision problems.
DO NOT SHARE NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES for other health conditions. KEEP NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES out of the reach of children and pets. IF YOU WILL BE USING NITRO-DUR 30 0.8mg/HR PATCHES FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
