I first bought this shampoo based off internet research and bulletin's and reading about various types of dandruff and acne issues on the back (bacne). On a well-known website for dermatology from a famous university there I saw pictures of acne on the back and neck that was treated in the traditional way for acne but unsuccessfully. It was later noted that this acne was not truly acne but rather a reaction to a specific type fungi/yeast that lives on the oil produced by the body. Of particular areas this thrives is the upper back and chest, and the triangle area directly above the cleft of the buttocks. Also on the scalp, wherever it is present the person has what seems to be deep, painful itchy zits. The people who had this type of fungi were all successfully treated with Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is POWERFUL anti-fungal (belonging to the "azole" family). This shampoo is highly effective against this type of dandruff that may be untreatable with other types of dandruff shampoos. I bought this and the zits and bacne COMPLETELY WENT AWAY. The bad thing is, that I start to get acne almost immediately upon stopping its use. The good thing is, that this is the FIRST summer in years that I have been able to wear tank tops! Also, no more itchy bumps on my head and around my lower hairline. It also seemed to really make a difference with the acne I was getting on my face! I have been using it as a body wash for my back and upper chest as well as shampoo. This is how I got rid of my bacne and acne on my chest as well as the dandruff type symptoms on my head. I am thinking about using it as a face wash now too! BTW, you can get the 2% Ketoconozole shampoo from a dermatologist, but its usually not necessary. Try Nizoral first! Since it is anti-fungal, try using it for Tinea Versicolor, which is also a fungal based rash. (Results in patches of de-pigmented areas on the skin). Let the shampoo lather up and let it sit on your skin for 2 minutes before rinsing off. I can't stop using this stuff..I tried everything on my back, salycilic acid sprays, benzoil peroxide bars and creams. All I got from those were more zits or stained/bleached t-shirts. I am 34 years old, and I have no idea why I have these skin problems since I hit about age 30. I am attributing it to some sort of hormoneal imbalance. Ketoconazole also has anti-androgenic effects, and many body builders use it on their back and hair to prevent the thinning of hair and acne that results from their steroid abuse.

I loved the prescription version years ago, but this doesn't perform nearly as well and is almost as expensive. It's also a touch harsh on the scalp. The fragrance they use to cover the medicinal smell is pleasant, but my scalp is still flaky so I will not repurchase.

Due to stress and ...

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

Due to stress and depression, I developed seborrheic dermatitis. My scalp never seemed to clear up despite trying to use TGel, Head and Shoulders, and Denorex. By far, this has been the only product to thoroughly get rid of the dry, itchy scalp, and dandruff. As a girl with thick, coarse and wavy hair to begin with, I strongly recommend that you use a heavy duty conditioner afterwards.

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

Not all flakes on the scalp are caused by the same thing.I've had seborrheic dermatitis for over 30 years. It seemed to get worse as I aged and consequently as I became diabetic. Those yeast cells were being fed well with my increased blood glucose. Ordinary dandruff shampoos did little. I got not even a day's respite from the crust and redness. Within 1 week of 2 shampoos, my scalp was free of dander and redness. I tried it all and it took this OTC product to put a halt to the Malasezzia. I have very curly hair, so double up on a good conditioner for dryness, and you're good to go!

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

I had severe dermatitis caused by stress several years ago. I used this product, and yes, it cleared up the condition --but it left my hair feeling like wool. I am a Black American so perhaps it was too strong for my hair type (which needs moisture). I ended up having to cut my hair within a inch of its life because of the the breakage and damage to the hair (I had brastrap length hair). My hair has grown back now...2 years later, but I still get shivers when I see the product. New users...be careful!! --monitor it for yourself, follow-up with intensive conditioner--this is just my experience...

Since my husband refuses to use Rogaine, I bought this shampoo for him to try. We see a difference in the volume in his hair, and even other family members have commented on his hair.

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

I have fine, thin hair with itchy patches on my scalp. Last year, My doctor had prescribed ketoconazole 2% shampoo, which worked great. Then I discovered I can buy Nizoral in a 1% solution. This works great too! I also like how it leaves my hair: silky soft and shiney, but not limp or greasy! I use it a lot now, even when my scalp is not itching. It has a light, clean fragrance.

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

Of all the products I've tried over the years, Nizoral works best at clearing up my itchy, flaky scalp. My doctor recommended it over Rx products and she knew what she was talking about. I only use it once a week and that is usually enough, but during high stress times, I use it every other day until my scalp clears up.

If the usual dandruff ...

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

If the usual dandruff shampoo suspects haven't helped your symptoms, this is for you. It's blue and smells like Head & Shoulders, only its active ingredient is a non-prescription strength of the anti-fungal Ketaconozole and works like a charm. My first time using it dried up my scalp itch and alleviated all the redness and tender spots. It is very drying and I only used it every 3 or 4 days, letting it sit while in the shower but always followed it up with a conditioner. About twice a month keeps my scalp clear after the initial 8 weeks (per the label). So if you are prone to any kind of yeast infections, from antibiotics, birth control, Prednisone or diet, this stuff works.

DON'T USE IT EVERY DAY! ...

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

DON'T USE IT EVERY DAY! Read the label - use it once every 3-4 days, which would be about twice a week. I have long, thick hair, and the small bottle lasts months. A little goes a LONG way; lathers very well. With any shampoo, you should only lather once unless your hair is truly filthy. Leaves my curly hair feeling clean and healthy, not stripped. It smells nice and clean, not medicinal. I follow with a leave-in conditioner, yet it doesn't get dirty any more quickly than with other shampoos - can go 2-3 days in a pinch. Just don't understand those who talk about it making their hair get dirty quicker. I use this 2 days a week and often alternate with a different type dandruff shampoo in between. This "cocktail" controls my severe dermatitis (heavy scaling, itchy, weepy crusting, etc.) better than anything else over the counter or prescription. If this has no affect on your dandruff, yours is probably not caused or affected by yeast. If it is, as is often the case, this should help.

My husband has non-specific and occasional occurrences of dermatitis on his scalp. Nizoral works very well, and then starts to loose effectiveness. He needs to switch to another brand of formula for awhile and then go back to Nizoral.

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

I had Tinea Capitis (also called ringworm of the scalp) -- lots of dandruff, itchy scalp, red spots on my scalp and reduced hair growth. I used Nizoral and literally 3 days later it was all gone. I use now twice a week to maintain.
