On a well-known website for dermatology from a famous university there I saw pictures of acne on the back and neck that was treated in the traditional way for acne but unsuccessfully. It was later noted that this acne was not truly acne but rather a reaction to a specific type fungi/yeast that lives on the oil produced by the body. Of particular areas this thrives is the upper back and chest, and the triangle area directly above the cleft of the buttocks. Also on the scalp, wherever it is present the person has what seems to be deep, painful itchy zits. The people who had this type of fungi were all successfully treated with Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is POWERFUL anti-fungal (belonging to the "azole" family). This shampoo is highly effective against this type of dandruff that may be untreatable with other types of dandruff shampoos. I bought this and the zits and bacne COMPLETELY WENT AWAY. The bad thing is, that I start to get acne almost immediately upon stopping its use. The good thing is, that this is the FIRST summer in years that I have been able to wear tank tops! Also, no more itchy bumps on my head and around my lower hairline. It also seemed to really make a difference with the acne I was getting on my face! I have been using it as a body wash for my back and upper chest as well as shampoo. This is how I got rid of my bacne and acne on my chest as well as the dandruff type symptoms on my head. I am thinking about using it as a face wash now too! BTW, you can get the 2% Ketoconozole shampoo from a dermatologist, but its usually not necessary. Try Nizoral first! Since it is anti-fungal, try using it for Tinea Versicolor, which is also a fungal based rash. (Results in patches of de-pigmented areas on the skin). Let the shampoo lather up and let it sit on your skin for 2 minutes before rinsing off. I can't stop using this stuff..I tried everything on my back, salycilic acid sprays, benzoil peroxide bars and creams. All I got from those were more zits or stained/bleached t-shirts. I am 34 years old, and I have no idea why I have these skin problems since I hit about age 30. I am attributing it to some sort of hormoneal imbalance. Ketoconazole also has anti-androgenic effects, and many body builders use it on their back and hair to prevent the thinning of hair and acne that results from their steroid abuse. It's also a touch harsh on the scalp. The fragrance they use to cover the medicinal smell is pleasant, but my scalp is still flaky so I will not repurchase. I've used it for 3 weeks now and I find it to be amazing. It's the only shampoo that makes my hair feel like it's clean. I could not be happier! Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: I purchased this immediately after it became available and in 1 week I was able to tell a difference. It completely cleared up all dandruff and kept it away for weeks. I've used this shampoo for years about twice per week. However, because of the price I didn't always have it in stock. Whenever I had a relapse I would get it again and it would clear up my head by the 2nd use. Lately though I've noticed that it doesn't work as well as it used to. My dandruff has returned and I'm not sure if it's because I've built a tolerance to the shampoo, my condition has worsened, or if the shampoo has changed. I've always had very long thick hair and I noticed that long term use of this product has had a noticeable lessening/thinning of my hair. Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: This product works great for me -- and as long as I don't use it too often, it doesn't make my hair too dry or too oily. I used it every other day at first, and now I use it once or twice a week. What I love about this shampoo is that it doesn't smell bad, like other dandruff shampoos I've tried. Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: I have seborrheaic dermatitis and I've tried almost every product on the market. Nizoral should only be used once or twice a week, otherwise, it will have adverse affects. When I first purchased the product, I used it every day for two weeks. I ended up with an extremely dry scalp and experienced hair loss. Now, I use Nizoral once a week and Herbal Essences anti-dandruff shampoo daily, followed by a light conditioner. It's the best combination. Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: I know this shampoo is supposed to kill the yeast that causes dandruff, but it stripped the moisture out of my hair, which is highlighted and needs TLC. I'll stick with good ole Head & Shoulders, which works fine and is much gentler. Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: I am 6 months pregnant, so my hormones are affecting my skin greatly. I started to get some tiny flakes dandruff on my head, and a little itchy. I bought Garnier Fructis Anti Dandruff shampoo first, which has pyrithione zinc, used it a couple times - did not really do much. My hair got stringy and oily, almost as if there was a residue left on it. I then switched to Nizoral, with ketoconazole, used this couple times. Same result. Kind of helped with the itchiness, but didn't last. Small flakes continued. Same stringy, oily hair residue. I was almost going to try Neutrogena T Gel, with coal tar. But instead I bought Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo - which is just a cleansing, regular shampoo, not anti dandruff. It got rid of most of the residue, oily feel in my hair. My hair feels more or less back to normal after one use. The dandruff is still there, but it's not bad. And the itchiness went away. The shampoo feels GREAT on your head while you're using it - very cooling. Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: In reading the reviews, it may not work for some, but it WORKED for me. I tried all sorts of off the shelf products and those didn't do anything. What a relief that my nurse suggested Nizoral (which other patients had reported success with). Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: This is perhaps best dandruff shampoo ever produced. It completely eliminated my dandruff in less than a week. As a result, I can wear a black shirt and go out to clubs under fluorescent lighting and seen nothing on my shoulders. I have no visible dandruff flaking and the itchy scalp condition has nearly gone away completely. The 1% (non-prescription strength) shampoo used once a week provides sufficient dandruff control for most people with mild to moderate dandruff, although the directions state that the product should be used twice a week. This is perhaps the case if the dandruff is more severe. It is important to allow the lather to remain on the scalp for 5 minutes prior to rinsing. The Nizoral shampoo does tend to do a number on the body of the hair, so be sure to follow up with a good conditioner. I'm partial to Neutrogena Triple Deep Recovery. Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: I am absolutely unsatisfied by this product. Not only did it not stop the dandruff, but also my hair started falling out. To be honest there were some positive effects during the first two weeks when I washed my hair every day, but soon after that it was the same old situation. Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz: I had been using the prescription Nizoral (which is 2% strength rather than the 1% of the over-the-counter version) to control flaking in my beard, which it did extremely well. I thought I would try the over-the-counter since it was so much cheaper (to those of you complaining about the price of this, the prescription version costs twice as much for a bottle half the size!) Unfortunately, it was completely ineffective. Displaying reviews 121-130 ![]() |
