I first bought this shampoo based off internet research and bulletin's and reading about various types of dandruff and acne issues on the back (bacne). On a well-known website for dermatology from a famous university there I saw pictures of acne on the back and neck that was treated in the traditional way for acne but unsuccessfully. It was later noted that this acne was not truly acne but rather a reaction to a specific type fungi/yeast that lives on the oil produced by the body. Of particular areas this thrives is the upper back and chest, and the triangle area directly above the cleft of the buttocks. Also on the scalp, wherever it is present the person has what seems to be deep, painful itchy zits. The people who had this type of fungi were all successfully treated with Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is POWERFUL anti-fungal (belonging to the "azole" family). This shampoo is highly effective against this type of dandruff that may be untreatable with other types of dandruff shampoos. I bought this and the zits and bacne COMPLETELY WENT AWAY. The bad thing is, that I start to get acne almost immediately upon stopping its use. The good thing is, that this is the FIRST summer in years that I have been able to wear tank tops! Also, no more itchy bumps on my head and around my lower hairline. It also seemed to really make a difference with the acne I was getting on my face! I have been using it as a body wash for my back and upper chest as well as shampoo. This is how I got rid of my bacne and acne on my chest as well as the dandruff type symptoms on my head. I am thinking about using it as a face wash now too! BTW, you can get the 2% Ketoconozole shampoo from a dermatologist, but its usually not necessary. Try Nizoral first! Since it is anti-fungal, try using it for Tinea Versicolor, which is also a fungal based rash. (Results in patches of de-pigmented areas on the skin). Let the shampoo lather up and let it sit on your skin for 2 minutes before rinsing off. I can't stop using this stuff..I tried everything on my back, salycilic acid sprays, benzoil peroxide bars and creams. All I got from those were more zits or stained/bleached t-shirts. I am 34 years old, and I have no idea why I have these skin problems since I hit about age 30. I am attributing it to some sort of hormoneal imbalance. Ketoconazole also has anti-androgenic effects, and many body builders use it on their back and hair to prevent the thinning of hair and acne that results from their steroid abuse.

I loved the prescription version years ago, but this doesn't perform nearly as well and is almost as expensive. It's also a touch harsh on the scalp. The fragrance they use to cover the medicinal smell is pleasant, but my scalp is still flaky so I will not repurchase.

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

Tinea Versicolor is a fairly common type of rash, and one that can be really difficult to cure.

I have had this stupid rash on my chest and the back of my neck for months, and the treatments recommended by my doctor had not helped at all (Selsun shampoo and lamisil cream). After doing some of my own research on other treatments for tinea versicolor, I learned that ketoconazole (the main ingredient in this shampoo) is one recommended treatment. So, I got this shampoo and used it as a sort of body wash.

I was amazed to realize tonight that my previously scaly, leathery, discolored skin is totally back to normal! I'm so, so, so happy. It's been about 3-4 weeks since I started using it in the shower. I have been lathering it on the affected areas of my skin every other day or so and letting it sit for a few minutes and then rinsing it off. The first few times I used it, I also lathered my hair and most of my skin with it, just in case.

Also, Nizoral smells decently (not sulfery like Selsun) and does actually leave my hair clean and manageable. I don't have dandruff so I can't comment on that.

FYI - EXCELLENT FOR RINGWORM- Peeps&Dogs

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

Just wanted to write that the main ingredient in this shampoo is Ketoconazole, which is otherwise prescribed (cream form) for resolving RINGWORM. Don't want to skeev anyone out, but figured that it is good inf

o to know . . . both for people (ringworm on the body - not feet, aka Athlete's Foot is a different kind and also works for that on the scalp) and for dogs (once diagnosed by a Vet . . . if you're careful to avoid the eye/ nose & other sensitive/ genital areas). Use every day as a body wash or shampoo, following directions & letting it sit for 10-15 minutes on affected area (every other to every week for dogs - ONLY - as it may be toxic to cats, not sure), along w/ any prescribed topical creams/ lotions or oral prescriptions (Fluconazole is the best/ strongest/ fast acting).

Just make sure to be religious in its use & use well beyond after the infection has cleared . . . probably a good 2-3 weeks or month to fully resolve/ kill off/ dry up all traces of the infection. (you guys know that ringworm is a fungus or rather, dermatophyte, which actually is the same culprit behind the reason you get dandruff)

Comments about Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, 7 fl oz:

I have mild dandruff. Shampoos like Head & Shoulders don't seem to correct the problem, they just seem to "temporarily reduce the symptoms." Nizoral, even in small amounts, and only used 1-2 times a week, eliminates all itch, flake, etc. I didn't use any for nearly 2 months before I started noticing a very minor itch...but no flakes ever...so ordered so more, and no worries...this product works great.

Use this only once-in-a-while, when flakiness appears on scalp. After three or four shampoos with Nizoral over a period of a week, I go back to my regular shampoo and it is usually many months before the flakiness appears again.
