Chemical Name: KETOCONAZOLE (kee-toe-KON-a-zole)
Nizoral 2% Shampoo is an antifungal used to reduce scaling associated with dandruff.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Nizoral 2% Shampoo. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO if you are also taking astemizole or terfenadine. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a history of weakened immune system, blood problems (such as porphyria), liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Nizoral 2% Shampoo.
Use Nizoral 2% Shampoo exactly as directed by your doctor. MOISTEN HAIR AND SCALP with water. Apply enough shampoo to wash your scalp and hair. Gently massage the entire scalp, leaving the shampoo on for about 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, then dry your hair as you normally do. STORE NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO at room temperature, away from heat and light.
DO NOT TAKE SELDANE (terfenadine) OR HISMANAL (astemizole) while using Nizoral 2% Shampoo. KEEP NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO OUT of your eyes, nose, and mouth. If this occurs, wash with water and contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Before you use Nizoral 2% Shampoo, tell your doctor if you have been using other topical medicines for the same problem. STOP USING NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO and contact your doctor if you develop a rash or other sign of irritation. USING NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO ON HAIR that has been permanently waved may cause a loss of the curl. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Nizoral 2% Shampoo during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Nizoral 2% Shampoo, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include unusual oiliness or dryness of your hair and scalp. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience a rash, soreness, or itching. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Nizoral 2% Shampoo may be harmful if swallowed.
DO NOT SHARE NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO for other health conditions. KEEP NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO out of the reach of children. IF USING NIZORAL 2% SHAMPOO FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
