My husband and I use 5-HTP every night to help with sleep and as a mood lifter. I'm not a medical person so I don't know if it would qualify scientifically as an anti-depressent. I do know that my husband changed to this from Zoloft and has had good results.

5-HTP has been a lifesaver for me! I have been on and off anti depressents for years until doing research on supplements and discovered 5-htp. I haven't been on antidepressents in over a year and feel so much better. I began taking the supplement several times a day and have now cut back to one in the afternoon and two before I go to bed along with my calcium, mag,d3 and zinc supp. If I feel a wave of anxiety or depressive thoughts coming I take a bit more. I can feel the calming effect within 15-30 minutes. I am so thankful to have found this supplement and not have to be on anti depressent or anti anxiety medication any more. Please try it!!
