Glucomannan is a soluble, bulk forming fiber derived from Konjac Root (Amorphophallus konjac). Clinical studies have demonstrated that Glucomannan can provide temporary relief of constipation and may help to maintain serum lipid levels already within the healthy range. In addition, because Glucomannan helps to promote satiety (feeling of fullness), it can be an effective addition to a weight management plan that includes a healthy diet and exercise program.*

Comments about NOW Foods Glucomannan 100% Pure Powder from Konjac Root:
This is the very same stuff, minus the inactive ingredients they add, that Roca Labs is trying to rip off the public for $480.00 as their "non-surgical gastric bypass." Obviously, it can be purchased here for A LOT less. Their claim that this product is tantamount to non-surgical gastric bypass is a bit of a radical statement, but they are not altogether lying. Glucomannan DOES expand quite a lot (it's fun to watch in a glass of water!) and if you take enough of it, it could provide a feeling of fullness. How long that fullness lasts, I don't know. That's the catch.
There is no flavor to the powder, so it isn't really hard to eat, it's just a bit boring. Like unflavored Jello.
Rather than putting the powder in your mouth and then swallowing it with water, I would recommend putting the powder into a tall glass of sugar-free flavored water, or whatever other clear sugar-free liquid you choose, letting it expand, and then eating it with a spoon to avoid it expanding in your throat, which could be dangerous.
It's worth a try for weight loss and it is a natural fiber, so even if you don't lose weight, it's good for your body.
