Comments about NOW Foods L-Tryptophan, 500mg, Vegetarian Capsules, 120 ea: Take with carb snack like juice at least one hour before or after proteins, with vitamin b6 for best results. Other amino acids found in protein interfere with tryptophan absorption, and insulin clears these aminos so eat something that will spike glucose a little. B6 is needed for the body to use tryptophan to make serotonin. Tryptophan has improved the quality of my life dramatically, and I no longer need SSRIs or sleeping pills. Pros

Comments about NOW Foods L-Tryptophan, 500mg, Vegetarian Capsules, 120 ea: I take 2-3 before bed, for problems I've been having for sleep; i.e. waking up very early in the night and not being able to go back to sleep. It's too early to tell for sure, but they do seem to help me stay asleep longer, but won't know for sure until the prescription med I'm taking is totally out of my system. Pros

Comments about NOW Foods L-Tryptophan, 500mg, Vegetarian Capsules, 120 ea: Having experienced a traumatic attack during a home invasion Oct 2010, I found myself depressed and periodically cycling into scary territory. I can't take antidepressants because of serious/bizarre side effects. My doctor had me taking Sam-e, which was helpful, but when the depression got life threatening, even Sam-e failed. That's when I purchased the L-Tryptophan. What a huge difference. I no longer cycled down into life threatening levels of depression and I now take a combination of both the Sam-e and L-Tryptophan that keeps my depression completely at bay.
