After I established my supply and was no longer soaking up pads, I felt I was wasting the disposable pads when they weren't really needed. However, I wasn't brave enough to go without them. These were great. They are thick, so they are only good with a padded bra but I loved that they were cotton, so they were breathable, which was wonderful when I was fighting thrush.
Like another reviewer, I may have leaked once or twice through the bottom, but if I knew I was pushing back the feedings and had a chance of a lot of leaking, I would wear disposable ones.
They are easy enough to just wash in the sink, but I would also throw in the weekly load of laundry.
Overall, I was happy with my purchase and will use them the same way next time around.
Compared to disposable nursing pads they are less absorbent and less contoured (more like a flat disk), which also means less discreet if worn with an unlined bra. After washing and drying them a few times they seemed to conform and absorb better. Over two months of regular use I only had 2 incidents of leaking (out the bottom, not through the pad itself). On the plus side, they don't bunch up like disposables can. The pros (including environmental impact and cost/wear) outweigh the cons, in my opinion. They get more comfortable the longer you use them.
