I would like to preface by saying that NO method is 100% effective. None. So with that said, I don't completely trust spermicides like Conceptrol.
So what I do is I chart my cycles. Once you do that, you will learn which days of the month are your "danger zone" days, when you're most likely ovulating. I either don't have sex those days, or use spermicidal condoms (which, if used properly, are more effective than spermicide alone). I save Conceptrol for the "safer" weeks of the month. This has worked well for me, as I've done it for several years with no pregnancies or negative side effects.
As for the actual product, it is easy to insert and comfortable. It's messy, but not really much messier than regular unprotected sex. It can also be used right after sex, instead of right before, if need be. My husband and I both prefer Conceptrol to condoms or Sponges.
we used this method and its not working, my girlfriend is pregnant and because of this she has to get abortion, this is completely useless, don't waste your money on this kinds of pregnancy method ,it just got you into trouble..never ever buy again. stay away...........
I've been using this product for a few months. It's been effective so far, however, the next day it leaks out all day long. I have to wear a pantyliner because so much leaks out. I've also gotten a recurring yeast infection, which seems to coincide with the use of this product. I've never had a yeast infection before in my life, but I think because of the leakage it creates the moist environment thats just right for a yeast infection to start. It's easy to use and very convenient, and I wish it worked out for me but I can't say that I would purchase this again.
I don't take birth control pills, and this is the next best thing without the condom. Like this better than the foam as the gel may also act as a lubricant. Though the packaging can use some improvement...takes a while to rip when you're in the moment, without glasses with flimsy hands. Maybe if there is a peel off tab like those on a tampon would be great.
Love how this is an 'at the moment' method, nothing to remember,no hormones. Takes less time to unwrap and insert than it does to unwrap and put on a condom. My husband and I have been using these for 2 1/2 years now and like them better than the foam or capsules. The first time was a little messy but as long as you push the applicator in far enough before squishing out the gel it's not too bad. I have even used them after the fact and didn't end up pregnant...not that they recomend that!!
For us, this product is reliable, easy and effective. We have used this as our birth control method solely for 3+ years and have not gotten pregnant. We follow the instructions carefully. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the mess factor however, having sex without a barrier is messy anyway.
The first time using this I did experience a little burning but it quickly went away. I used it again the next day and not problem. My spouse didn't experience any side effects. The inserts are prefilled so you just unwrap and insert like you would a tampon.. It does not effect sensitivity
If you are a little dry or you havent gotten your motor started yet, the insert helps moisten things up for you. (My hubby likes it and thinks he has done a good job warming me up, ha ha.)
I got these when the foam got discontinued. I like the foam better because it doesn't involve so much plastic and wrappers. In a sense these are more convenient, since I don't have to have a level surface and measure, etc. They are messier than foam. My OB-GYN told me to use these with a condom, and that is what we do. Haven't tried it with a diaphragm.
For best protection against pregnancy, follow the enclosed directions exactly.
Insert one applicatorful into the vagina not more than one hour before intercourse.
An additional applicator full is required each time intercourse is repeated
