This is the only product I have tried. No burning, no UTI's (try urinating afterward.. it helps prevent them!), no adverse reactions for either of us. I put some in the diaphragm cup (only an applicator-full.. as it says in the directions) and then a little around the edges. I bought the extra strength because, hey, if you're going to try to prevent pregnancy this way, you might as well get the strongest stuff! I have not tried it by itself. It probably would be messier that way. This stays within the diaphragm for 6-8 hours until I remove it. After that only some of it continues to come out over the next day but it's no big deal. My husband prefers the diaphragm to using condoms, and I can prep awhile beforehand for spontaneity. More "natural" alternative to BC pills or other hormonal methods. It's messier but it just takes getting used to. As far as I know it has prevented pregnancy but no barrier method is perfect. It made for a terrible night.. could hardly sleep... every half hour more spermicide would ooze out and I'd feel like I needed to pee again. Even went to a doc the next day to ensure that I didn't have a UTI. They confirmed it was just an adverse reaction to the spermicide. Comments about Options Gynol II Extra Strength Vaginal Contraceptive Jelly, 2.85 oz: This is the product that makes using a diaphragm possible! When these two are used with each other and correctly, the diaphragm has a 0% failure rate! (This is straight from the mouth of my CNM.)This does get somewhat messy, and must be done with attention to detail, but it's worth it to take the time and patience to use this, since it makes hormonal birth control no longer necessary. It IS also true that when the diaphragm and spermicide are used correctly, they provide protection against STD's and HIV. The directions on this page aren't completely correct--you have to put a good, thick ring of spermicide on the rim of the diaphragm in addition to a dollop inside it. Otherwise, this is the way to go. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Yes / No - You may also flag this review 9/30/2011 good expiration date Pros

Comments about Options Gynol II Extra Strength Vaginal Contraceptive Jelly, 2.85 oz: I was worried that it would come with a short expiration date like I had seen at a couple of drugstores but that was not the case. Comments about Options Gynol II Extra Strength Vaginal Contraceptive Jelly, 2.85 oz: I got off the pill because I was tired of taking it; it got to the point that I wasn't taking it as I was suppose to & I started having spotting that would last a week or more, so I decided I was done with remembering to swallow a pill everyday! I was off of it for about 2 and a 1/2 months with no back-up plan. My Husband & I knew we didn't want to use anything else that I would have to have a prescription for or use condoms or diaphragm because they are a big inconvenience, so I started searching online & saw the Options Gynol extra strength on this website, which I didn't know existed (found by searching). I read the reviews & although they weren't all encouraging, I decided to buy 1 & take a chance to see if it was something we would like, hoping there would be no side effects and thankfully there were none at all! It was very easy to use! I actually can climax easier being off the pill & that's a definite +! People who have reviewed this product have said it's messy which is weird because sex is messy anyway, so no big deal! Also, I've read people have experienced a UTI, which I'm not sure how you could get that from using Optiions Gynol-you should always urinate after sex to prevent that! The one thing I love is not having to take a pill everyday because there are a lot of people who don't have sex everyday, so you just use this when you do! I love that I can order online & not have to go to the store for privacy & convenience! I will definitely continue to use this! It's awesome! By VeryHappyCustomer from East Coast describe yourself Budget Buyer Pros Cons Best Uses
Comments about Options Gynol II Extra Strength Vaginal Contraceptive Jelly, 2.85 oz: This is the birth control I have been searching for over the past years. I wonder why no one really advocates for spermicide. Well, I have tried everything....the shot, oral pills, nuvaring, etc. Recently I found out that I have Factor V which is a blood clot disorder. With that diagnosis, there is no option to take birth control with hormones. So i gave this a try and WE LOVE IT. I have not had any problems with burning or irritation and neither has he. As a matter of fact, it has really enhanced sex. No more needing to get the extra lube out. I would highly recommend giving it a try. You may want to try a small amount the first time (while using a back up method) to make sure it feels okay for you. Comments about Options Gynol II Extra Strength Vaginal Contraceptive Jelly, 2.85 oz: I've used the regular Gynol gel with a diaphragm for years. It's always been great, no irritation or adverse effects. But the extra strength product is so strong it irritates my husband and myself and has caused us to seek treatment for UTI. I don't know why there are different strengths for this product but I would highly recommend sticking with the regular strength gel. Comments about Options Gynol II Extra Strength Vaginal Contraceptive Jelly, 2.85 oz: This is my first time using a spermicide after being on birth control pills for over 10 years. I agree with the others that this product adds extra lubrication and you SHOULD wear a pantyliner the next day when it all comes back down.....EWWWW.
