For years, I've taken Oscal 500+D (green caplets). I ordered these Oscal Ultra 600 MG a few days ago because I could not locate the green ones on this web site. The Ultras are much larger than the original green ones. They are uncomfortable to take as they are too big to swallow comfortably and one is afraid they will get stuck. I will not order them again. If Oscal is going this huge route, it's time to change brands.

I have taken OsCal regular 500mg. + D for almost
25 years with no problem. The last time I needed
to purchase it, I thought I'd try this OsCal Ultra as
the additional vitamins & minerals sounded like it
would be good for me. What I failed to do was to
read the ingredients. I have lactose intolerance
and the OsCal Ultra contain lactose! Yikes!
The first week I started taking them I was sick
everyday with digestive issues and an all over sick
feeling. I had not eaten differently or started on any
new meds but...aha, the OsCal Ultra. As soon as
I read the label which proudly proclaims "gluten free",
I looked at the ingredients and there is was - lactose.
I immediately stopped taking them and within two
days I was back to normal. OsCal never contained
lactose so I was quite disappointed. Luckily, my
husband will take them as he's not lactose intolerant.
I went back to the regular OsCal and once again,
all is well. OsCal is a very good product but be
careful of which formula you choose if you have any
conditions. Moral of this story: Read the ingredients!

Spoke with my pharmacist who said best to take at lunch time and then at dinner time to avoid maxing out the available calcium. It is important to always split up the doses - don't take two together. They are a bit on the big side for tablets but go down easy.

This product was recemmended by a Dr. since Osteosporosis has been diagnosed and there has been improvement in my bones since I have been using this product.

I'm new to Oscal, but not to calcium supplements. This is much easier to swallow than most of the other high-absorption types. Taking large doses of calcium is no longer a chore.
