Consider Periogen if you are on a 3 or 4 month cleaning program with your dental professional; if your gums are painful or bleeding; if your dental professional comments about the "buildup" on your teeth; or if you have been told you need a deep cleaning. Periogen Oral Rinse, now protected under 2 U.S. patents is the only oral care product in the world that can remove the hardened dental tartar that supports bacteria infestation that causes gum disease. Periogen: For healthier gums, healthier teeth, and a brighter smile.
Use of a germ killing mouth rinse in an attempt to control the infection associated with tartar will only have a temporary effect as bacteria will re-colonize the tartar as long as it is present. Left unchecked, pain, bleeding, and ultimately tooth loss can occur.
Your dentist may recommend a "deep cleaning" in order to combat your gum disease; however, a study conducted by Buchanan and Robertson in 1987 demonstrated that participating dentists were only 40% effective at removing dental tartar during the "deep cleaning" procedure. Tartar that is not removed during cleaning will once again provide the habitat for continued bacterial infestation and further gum disease.
One of the primary reasons for this poor result is that dentists cannot actually see below your gum line, where tartar does the most damage. They are essentially "scraping blind" with dental tools that are relatively unchanged from their invention hundreds of years ago. A modern dental deep cleaning is invasive, only partially effective, and is considered a treatment, not a cure.
Periogen, when applied through an oral irrigator, flushes the entire dental pocket and gum line, painlessly and progressively removing tartar wherever it can reach, typically down to 6 mm. We believe you and your dentist will be amazed at the results.
Periogen is for individuals who are seeking an alternative to expensive and painful removal of oral tartar by dental professionals, thus avoiding thousands of dollars in expense and discomfort over a lifetime. Periogen is the world's first and only alternative to professional dental cleanings. Periogen progressively removes dental tartar with each application. Before Periogen, tartar, the hard mineralized substance that forms on teeth, could only be removed through manual scraping.
Tartar, both above and below the gum-line, is comprised primarily of calcium phosphate salt. Periogen works by releasing the electrostatic bonds that enable tartar to stick to teeth. Periogen gently and progressively eliminates tartar from wherever it reaches. Periogen does not harm tooth enamel.
The time required to remove your tartar buildup varies depending upon age of tartar, the genetic predisposition for your body to produce tartar, and your commitment to the Periogen routine. Periogen begins removing tartar from the first application, with complete dissolution for most individuals in as little as 6 to 8 weeks. Your results will vary based upon your genetic makeup and the age of the tartar on your teeth. Once tartar is gone, occasional Periogen use will keep tartar from re-forming.
The former National Institute of Health Dental Director, Dr. Paul Keyes was impressed enough with our product to offer his unpaid endorsement in 2008. He used Periogen and came to the conclusion that "Periogen may be the most revolutionary dental product to hit the market in 20 years." The Periogen Company has never paid for an endorsement of the product as the results speaks for themselves. No Waterpik? Order a "Periogen Starter Kit."
Our patented formulation (patent # 8,298,516 and 8,303,938) contains only safe, proven, food and dental industry ingredients: STPP - Sodium Tripolyphosphate, TKPP - Tetrapotassium Pyrophosphate, Baking Soda (maintains a healthy 7.6 pH), Citric Acid (product delivery and pH control) Fluoride .04% (40X less than toothpaste). When added to water, the baking soda and citric acid add fizz in order to draw the active tartar-dissolving ingredients into solution while maintaining a healthy 7.6 pH. While Periogen ingredients are used in both the food and dental industry, we had our product independently safety tested beyond what is required of an oral care product by Nelson Labs of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A word about fluoride. It is a required ingredient and provides a charge source to break the electrostatic bonds that enable tartar to stick. We use the smallest amount possible, a fraction of what is in fluoride toothpaste. This small amount is rapidly used up as a layer of tartar is removed. Therefore whether swishing Periogen or applying via an oral irrigator, it is important that a fresh solution be mixed and used with each daily application. One 3 ounce bottle of Periogen when mixed with water makes over 5 gallons of rinse!
Plaque is the somewhat soft sticky material that forms daily on our teeth. The purpose of brushing is to remove this material. Tartar is the result of plaque calcifying or hardening on the teeth. Dentists refer to this buildup as "calculus."
Brushing will not remove tartar. Toothpaste and other traditional mouth rinses can help prevent tartar buildup, but they can't remove it. For most of us the easiest place to spot tartar (calculus) is on the lower inside of the front teeth. If there is visible tartar on your teeth at the gum line, then there is a good chance that it is extending down into the gum line as well. More advanced symptoms of tartar that has grown into the gum line include inflamed gums, and bleeding when brushing or flossing.
Although Periogen may be swished in the mouth for very minimal amounts of tartar, we recommend applying Periogen with the Waterpik Ultra WP100 oral irrigator. Using the PikPocket tip included with the WP100, Periogen can be delivered as deep as 6 mm. A modified PikPocket tip, bent to 90 degrees, is optionally available which provides an improved angle for periodontal pockets around rear molars. For very deep pockets, a soft syringe-style deep pocket applicator is available.
We at the Periogen Company encourage you to do thorough research prior to purchasing any product.
How to Use
Periogen may be used in an oral irrigator such as a Waterpik or swished in the mouth. We recommend the Waterpik WP-100 due to its unique rubber tip design and variable water jet settings. If you have visible tartar near the gum / tooth margin (gum line), chances are it is extending down into the gum along the tooth as well. The best method for applying Periogen in this case is use in an oral irrigator. The irrigator is very effective at ensuring the mixture penetrates into the gum line in order to remove any tartar buildup that is present. Periogen may also be swished for very light buildups and when you are on the go.
