Children's Bath Time

 –  Children's skin tends to be more sensitive than adult skin because it is still developing. Without many of the natural defenses that exist on adult skin, children's skin can react to irritants and environmental pollution. Kids can be prone to dry skin because their bodies produce very little sebum before puberty. You can make bath time fun and protect your little one's skin by using soaps and bodywash designed for children.

Why Use Children's Soaps and Bodywash

Soaps and bodywash formulated for children generally contain milder cleansing ingredients that remove dirt and grime without stripping away vital protective oils. Soaps and bodywash designed for adults contain ingredients that dissolve oils that gather on the surface of the skin and cause body odor. Until they reach puberty, children's skin does not produce these odorous oils. The detergents that can be found in adult soaps and bodywash can be problematic when used on children's skin. These chemicals can cause young skin to become dry and flaky by washing away the small amount of nourishing oil it produces.

Making Bath Time Fun

With the pace of modern life and the time pressures on families, it can be difficult to carve out a little fun time with your children. Rather than seeing bath time as a chore, you can turn this regular task into a fun activity. Fill the bath with soapy bubbles and challenge your child to make the most elaborate sculpture that they can imagine. Take a few bath toys for lots of fun and entertainment. Children love to experiment by filling various containers with water and watching it run out. A washcloth puppet can entertain your child as you wash hair and skin.

Bodywash containers decorated with your child's favorite cartoon characters can encourage them to wash themselves. Alternatively, use a soap that is shaped like a car, cupcake or dinosaur egg to introduce some bath time fun.

Multi-Purpose Products

When you are encouraging your child to take responsibility for washing themselves, it can be confusing to introduce too may bottles or dispensers. Make life simpler for them by using a multi-purpose product that can wash both their skin and hair. Some multi-purpose cleansers also contain conditioning ingredients that detangle hair, leaving it soft, shiny and manageable.

Make a Bath Part of Your Bedtime Routine

If your little one has difficulty getting to sleep at night, some childcare experts recommend making a warm bath part of their bedtime routine. By including products that contain calming lavender essential oils, you can enhance the sleep-inducing effect of a bedtime bath. Once you have toweled your child off and put on their pajamas, you can tuck them into bed with a goodnight story. An effective routine can take the stress out of bedtime for baby and mom.
