Choosing Between Deodorant and Antiperspirant to Fight Odor
The process that causes body odor is actually more complex than you might think. As your body releases sweat in certain areas like your groin, armpits, and feet, it creates a warm, moist environment where bacteria can grow and thrive. These germs then give off the scent commonly recognized as body odor.
In order to fight this unpleasant smell, you have a few choices. Traditional deodorants target bacteria and odor. They contain ingredients that kill off germs in addition to masking body odor with their own fragrances.
Antiperspirants are formulated to help stop body odor before it starts by temporarily blocking pores so that the sweat can’t reach the skin’s surface. By limiting sweat production, these products help ensure that colonies of bacteria can't thrive. The decision between deodorant and antiperspirant basically comes down to personal preference because both of these products tend to be almost equally effective.
Different Styles of Deodorant Products
Both antiperspirants and traditional deodorants are available in a number of different styles. Products like aerosol, roll-on gel, and stick deodorant each offer certain benefits that might make you choose one type over the others.
Aerosol deodorants are easy to apply by spraying them across your body. These products are quick-drying and can be hygienically shared.
Roll-on deodorants evenly spread a thin layer of gel across the area they are applied to, though they do take a little longer to dry.
Stick (or solid) deodorants typically contain deodorant powders that are suspended in a substance like silicone. These products go on dry and stay in place for an extended period of time. back to top »
