Choosing Between Rotary and Foil Shavers
The basic mechanism behind all electric shavers is essentially the same--moving blades are covered by perforated heads, and hairs are trimmed when they get inserted into the holes. However, the experience of shaving
is different depending on whether you choose a rotary or foil shaver. The decision ultimately comes down to a personal preference.
Rotary shavers have oscillating blades and either two or three heads that can pivot and flex as they glide over the contours of your face and neck.
Foil shavers use vibrating blades that are covered with a rounded layer of foil. They also have some range of motion, but they are best used on hair that grows in a single direction. Rotary shavers are often gentler and might be preferred by people with sensitive skin, but foil shavers tend to be able to achieve a close shave more quickly.
Special Features to Consider
Certain power shavers have special features that might appeal to you. While all of them can be used for a dry shave, some shavers are also built for wet shaving so that you can use your favorite cream or gel to protect your skin. Many shavers are built for portability and are battery-powered, while others plug in. Some models also have cleaning systems that disinfect blades while they charge the shaver.
Trimmers for Grooming
If you don't necessarily want to get rid of all the hair on a certain area of your face or body, you can turn to trimmers that allow you to target only specific areas. Many of them can also be used with plastic guards that cut hair to a chosen length without fully removing it.back to top »
