Which Size Round Brush?
From long, layered locks to shorter pixie cuts, the size of brush you use is largely dependent on the length of your hair and the style you want to achieve. A basic rule to remember when choosing the correct barrel size is that smaller brushes result in a more textured look and taut curl while larger sizes produce less texture and a more relaxed, wavy look.
Choose a round barrel brush of up to 1 inch for short hair, tighter curls and maximum lift. However, you can use a brush with a larger barrel on short hair to create all-over volume. A slightly larger barrel of 1 to 2 inches is ideal for creating loose, soft curls for longer hair and gorgeous beach-ready waves.
Choosing the Correct Bristle
Brush bristles are typically constructed of plastic, nylon or boar hair.
Most often, brushes with plastic and nylon bristles are the most economical choice and are designed for all hair types. In general, the more closely spaced the bristles are, the more control you have when styling your hair.
Boar hair bristle brushes are usually gentler on the hair than brushes made out of synthetic materials and are often recommended for children.
Different Brush Barrel Materials
Brush barrels may be constructed of ceramics, tourmaline, wood or hard plastic. Choosing a ceramic or tourmaline brush aids in fighting frizz, evenly distributing heat and improving shine.
A wood-based brush is ideal for those who prefer an eco-friendly option made from renewable resources. back to top »
