It replaces the new plate without the the vertical lever. This allows you to regulate the water flow. Note: By raising the filter media approximately a .5 inch from the bottom of the bowl you can also prevent overflow if you didn't save and install the original lever plate. My dog and cat use the Petmate watering dish and love it. Be sure to clean the dish and change the filter at least once a week. I bought a spare pump for a back up. The original lasted six years running 24-7. I was glad to find a replacement. Best Uses Comments about Petmate Fresh Flow Replacement Pump, 1 ea: I bought this pump in January and it broke back in June. The valve is missing from this pump, so it's not like the original pump where the flow of water could be controlled. I bought other automatic waterers but my cats do not like them. They keep going back to the pet mate. The company should take all these bad reviews into consideration and go with another manufacturer for their pumps. I may have to break down and buy another filter, but I feel cheated that it stopped working in under 6 months. Pros

Best Uses Comments about Petmate Fresh Flow Replacement Pump, 1 ea: Bought this pump to replace the original pump that came with my Petmate fountain when the power cord failed. It does the pumping job ok, but this pump does not have a flow control valve, and leaks water. There is always a little water under the fountain so I have to place the pump on a plastic cat tray with a little lip, and wipe up the water every day. Pain in the neck.Tried replacing the old cover and flow valve on this pump, but the shape/fit was not the same. Oh well, my cat loves her fountain, and I will need to find another pump that doesn't leak. Service and delivery comments: Excellent.  Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about Petmate Fresh Flow Replacement Pump, 1 ea: I have the older model (DMC 24860) Petmate Fresh Flow watering bowl. Naturally, this alleged replacement pump is NOT a DIRECT replacement. First off, the water flow adjustment, that fit on the old pump, would NOT fit on the new pump. The new pump was @10cm larger and I could not even force it on! I wound up with no water flow adjustment which only means the water flows only at maximum output. Next, the output tube was also slightly larger on the new pump so that the rubber gasket, which does fit, was too tight to fit in the hole in the filter assembly. I removed the output tube from the old one and used it on the new one. Bottom line, if you have an old Fresh Flow, be prepared to do some hard fitting and ingenuity! The "No, I would not recommend" would depend on the age of the friend's Fresh Flow and/or their mechanical ability. This fits the bill perfectly even though my system is not the exact model that the pump was originally designed for, it was easy to install and it is running quite well now.
