Unlike most litter mats with spikey rubber points that cats HATE to step on this one they love! I've never purchased one of the spiky ones because I had a large outdoor rug at my patio door with a texture just like them and my cats would do whatever it took to avoid any contact with it if I let them in the backyard with me. This rug is soft to their feet and traps litter great. I was reluctant to buy given the price tag but I found it on sale for a great price and couldn't pass it up. I'm so glad I did. It saves me a lot of floor sweeping! It's also quite large which adds to it's effectiveness. It does have a very strong rubber smell that I really disliked, but it faded after a couple days. Also, I was at a store yesterday and saw the welcome mat was made of the same type of looped rubber. If you know where to get commercial style rugs you might save some money getting one of those instead! There are a few pieces that get out but considering the traffic, this mat is amazing. Comments about Petmate Litter Catcher Mat, Large, 1 ea: easy to clean,pick up by the ends as if to shake but move arms in opposite direction as to "roll" it,haven't hosed it yet won't till spring, doesn't work quite as well as I had hoped but truely it saves alot,wishful thinking I WANTED NONE on the floors.wish I would have had a couple when I had a big garden. My cats also like to dig and create piles of litter outside the box. These mats catch that litter and I can easily dump it back into the box. The mats have reduced the tracking about 90%.
