Comments about PetZen DogTread Motorized Exercise Treadmill Just for Dogs, 1 ea:
Smaller treadmill - 18lb dog. Impressive packaging. Each nut, bolt etc. is separated and labeled in the packaging. Instructions are detailed and very simple. The treadmill as extremely easy too use as well. I had my dog using it without me holding the leash within 20 mins. He's not timid so I let him inspect the bits and pieces as I assembled the treadmill. I had a toy near by so I began throwing it and finishing up with the final assemblage as he retrieved. After a few tosses the assembly was done and I plugged it in (still off). I tossed the toy once more and then on the treadmill and instructed my dog where to go to retrieve the toy. (No leash! At most use the collar to GUIDE them onto the treadmill. This should all be done while your dog is still focused on retrieving the toy. If your dog is no longer interested in the toy, try to coax him/her on the to treadmill with commands if you have applicable ones, calm but stern speaking using words your dog hears everyday or some food; save the treats. If it is still not happening, stick to the guide with the treadmill.) I tossed the toy a few more times incorporating throwing it on the treadmill showing him how to enter when necessary, until he jumped on and off with ease . I grabbed the leash and brought him on and off the treadmill several times. I took him out to do his business! I walked back in, put him on the treadmill, got in front of the treadmill, sat on the floor and turned it on. I gave him gentle tugs on the leash to keep him engaged in the activity. Soon he was maintaining a consistent speed and stayed on the treadmill, which I found he did easier at faster speeds. I have a long legged rat terrier with some speed behind him so the treadmill doesn't go fast enough for him to run. It is also a little too short for taller but still light dogs. Bottom line: IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR ABILITY TO GIVE YOUR DOG 45MINS+ EXERCISE A DAY, THIS IS A NECESSITY!
As a general guide your dog's weight (up to 30lbs.) can be used to determine the best DogTread size to buy, but because each dog can be slightly different and to ensure your dog has plenty of room to exercise comfortably without hindering his or her gait, consider using the following technique:
1) Measure Your Dog Fully Extended. To do this, get your dog in a down position on its side and extend the legs, both front and back so they both appear to be reaching. The legs don't need to be straight out - just comfortably extended.
2) Provide Wiggle Room. Add another 5 inches to your dog's extended measurement. Consider that your dog may drift forward or back and allow for more room to ensure your dog will stride at a comfortable gait regardless of speed.
3) Review the Product Specs. The PZ1701 DogTread product description provides running area dimensions. Compare your measurements with the individual model specs to determine the best fit.
