 | What is Provigil?
|
| Provigil (generic name modafinil) is a prescription medicine used to treat people who have narcolepsy, a condition that causes frequent and uncontrollable daytime sleepiness. It helps lower the frequency and length of narcolepsy attacks. It also reduces yawning and is indicated to improve wakefulness in people with other sleep disorders such as sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome, and shift work sleep disorder. Medical research shows that Provigil is effective in up to 74 percent of the people who take it for narcolepsy. Its effectiveness when compared to other drugs isn’t known. The usual dose of Provigil is 200 mg daily in the morning. It can be taken with or without food. It may take one to two months of treatment to see the drug’s full effects.
