 | Are there any interactions between Avandia and other therapies?
|
| Avandia (generic name rosiglitazone) is a medicine used to treat people with type 2 diabetes. Avandia improves your ability to control blood sugar by making your body more sensitive to insulin. Taking Lopid (gemfibrozil) may increase the amount of Avandia in the body leading to an increase in side effects, so your doctor may decrease your dose of Avandia. Your dose of Avandia may need to be increased if you are taking Rifadin (rifampin). There are no other known drug interactions, but you should always let your doctor know what drugs you are taking.
Due to potential heart risks for some people taking Avandia, people should ask their doctor about the benefits and risks of this medication but should not stop taking any prescribed medications without first discussing the issue with their healthcare provider.
