 | Are there any over-the-counter treatments for type 2 diabetes?
|
| People with type 2 diabetes have too much sugar (glucose) in their blood. This can be a result of the body not making enough insulin, having a lowered response to insulin (a condition called "insulin resistance"), or both. No over-the-counter medicines are effective in treating type 2 diabetes. Some people with diabetes can control their blood sugar through diet and exercise alone. Others may also need oral prescription medicines or insulin replacement therapy. Sources: The Merck Manual of Medical Information: Home Edition. Merck & Co., 1997. Micromedex Healthcare Series.
