 | Are there any interactions with Accutane?
|
|  Accutane (generic name isotretinoin) is a prescription medicine for people with severe acne. It’s typically tried when antibiotics aren’t effective. You should not take vitamin A when on Accutane because vitamin A may increase the possibility and severity of side effects. If you're taking multivitamins or supplements, check to see if they contain vitamin A. To lower the risk of liver problems, avoid drinking alcohol while taking Accutane. Alert your healthcare provider if you use antibiotics such as tetracycline (brand name Sumycin), minocycline (Minocin), or doxycyline (Vibramycin). In combination with Accutane, these medications can increase the risk of brain swelling, an otherwise rare side effect. Low dose progesterone-only oral contraceptives, such as Micronor, Nor-QD and Ovrette, are less effective if taken during Accutane therapy. Sources:
