 | Are there any interactions with Fosamax?
|
| Fosamax (generic name alendronate) is a drug that prevents and treats the bone-thinning disorder osteoporosis. Fosamax slows bone breakdown, builds bone mass, and reduces the chance that bones will break. It also treats Paget's disease (weak or deformed bones). Taking other drugs or eating or drinking with your dose of Fosamax can reduce its effectiveness by interfering with its absorption into the bloodstream. So you should wait at least 30 minutes after taking Fosamax before eating or taking other medicines such as aspirin, NSAIDS like ibuprofen (brand name Motrin), calcium supplements, and antacids. Also, you should take Fosamax on an empty stomach with six to eight ounces of water. Sources: Micromedex® Healthcare Series. Thomson Micromedex, 2006. Fosamax product information, Merck & Co. Inc.,2006. Drug Facts and Comparisons. Facts & Comparisons, 2006.
