 | What is BuSpar?
|
| BuSpar (generic name buspirone hydrochloride) is a prescription drug most commonly used to relieve nervousness and anxiety. It may also help people with other conditions such as depression or premenstrual syndrome. Scientists believe BuSpar works by reducing levels of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine in the brain. It is important that you take BuSpar exactly as your doctor prescribes it. The usual dose is 15 mg daily (5 mg three times a day), but some people require more or less than this amount to control their symptoms. Patients generally show improvement within seven to ten days, but it may take three to four weeks to see the drug’s full benefit. Avoid alcohol and use caution when taking other medicines that can cause drowsiness. If you miss a dose, do not take two doses together unless advised by your healthcare provider. You can take BuSpar with or without food. Sources:
