 | Do any drugs interact with Exelon?
|
| Exelon (generic name rivastigmine) is a prescription drug for treating the early or middle stages of Alzheimer’s disease. It works by increasing brain levels of acetylcholine, a chemical important in memory, learning, and thinking.Exelon may reduce the effectiveness of other medicines, including Cogentin (benztropine) and Levsin (hyoscyamine). Your doctor may need to adjust the dose of these drugs while Exelon is being used. Taking Urecholine (bethanechol) along with Exelon may increase the risk of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach upset. These drugs shouldn’t be taken at the same time without a doctor's advice. Tell your doctor if you are taking NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as ibuprofen and naproxen. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Sources: Drug Facts and Comparisons, Facts & Comparisons, 2006. Exelon product information. Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, 2001.
