 | What is bromocriptine (Parlodel)?
|
| Bromocriptine (brand name Parlodel) is a drug that can be used to treat infertility. Infertility is described as the inability to conceive a baby within one year of trying. Bromocriptine can help women who are unable to menstruate (have a period) or ovulate. It helps to correct abnormal levels of prolactin in our bodies. Other uses of bromocriptine include hypogonadism, acromegaly, and Parkinson's disease. The dose of bromocriptine is determined by the reason for treatment. Talk to your doctor about the best dose for you. Be sure to take it exactly as your doctor recommends. It is best to take your dose of bromocriptine with food. Side effects of bromocriptine can include dizziness, drowsiness, upset stomach, headache, fatigue, vomiting, and constipation. Talk to your doctor if side effects worsen or become severe. Be sure to notify your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects: confusion, swelling, increased heartbeat, nasal discharge, or difficulty breathing. If you are having difficulty becoming pregnant, be sure to talk to your doctor about what the best treatment is for you. Sources: Drug Facts and Comparisons. Facts & Comparisons, 2007.Medline Plus.
