Chemical Name: BUTORPHANOL (byoo-TOR-fa-nole)

Common uses
This medicine is used in the nose to relieve pain and headaches.

Before using
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions or allergies.

Directions
Use this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE IS SUPPLIED AS A NASAL PUMP. Your pharmacist may have assembled the pump for you. THIS MEDICINE COMES WITH AN INSTRUCTION SHEET that explains how to use it. Read and make sure that you understand the directions before using a dose. If you have questions, check with your doctor or pharmacist. THE USUAL DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE is one spray into only one nostril. Do not spray into both nostrils unless directed by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are using it regularly, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT use 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE MORE OF THIS MEDICINE or take it more often than recommended by your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL SURGERY OR EMERGENCY TREATMENT, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine. AVOID ALCOHOL while you are using this medicine. This medicine will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Caution should be used in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, difficulty sleeping, blurred vision, dry mouth, nasal stuffiness, nasal irritation, a runny nose, sore throat, vomiting, or an unpleasant taste. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience breathing difficulties, irregular heartbeat, flushing, confusion, restlessness, anxiety, tremors, cough, blurred vision, ear pain, rash or hives, ringing in the ears. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include bluish skin; chest pain; cold and clammy skin; limp muscles; numbness of arms or legs; pinpoint pupils; slowed or difficult breathing; slowed heartbeat; severe drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness; loss of consciousness; and coma.
