Chemical Name: CHLORHEXIDINE (klor-HEX-i-deen)
This medicine is an antimicrobial oral rinse used to treat redness and swelling of the gums. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor or dentist. USE THIS MEDICINE as a mouth rinse after brushing teeth. Rinse with this medicine for about 30 seconds, unless otherwise directed, then spit out. DO NOT SWALLOW this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
THIS MEDICINE MAY STAIN TEETH. Brush and floss your teeth on a regular schedule and have regular dental check-ups every 6 months. DO NOT IMMEDIATELY RINSE WITH WATER after using this medicine as this will increase the bitter taste of this medicine. KEEP THIS MEDICINE OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
A SIDE EFFECT, that may go away during treatment, is change in taste. If it continues or is bothersome, check with your doctor or dentist. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, dentist, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include slurred speech, sleepiness, and stumbling or staggering walk.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
