Chemical Name: SUMATRIPTAN (SOO-ma-trip-tan)

Common uses
This medicine is a serotonin 5-HT1 receptor agonist ("triptan") used to treat migraine headaches with or without aura (eg, flashing lights, wavy lines, dark spots). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (such as furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, or tranylcypromine) or sibutramine. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking ergot alkaloids or serotonin reuptake blockers (such as citalopram). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including cluster headache, family history of heart disease, heart problems (such as cardiac conduction disturbance), seizures, kidney problems, liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have basilar artery migraine, hemiplegic migraine, heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, severe liver problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a history of chest pain, arrhythmias, or stroke. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

Directions
Use this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE COMES WITH A PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine before you need to use it for a migraine headache. This medicine relieves migraine pain at any time during an attack. However, IT IS BEST TO INJECT A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE as soon as you notice symptoms of a migraine attack. Be sure to inject each dose just below the skin. If your migraine symptoms do not improve following the first injection, do not give a second injection. DO NOT USE A SECOND DOSE for the same migraine. If your migraine symptoms come back, a second dose may be used. Allow at least 1 hour between doses. DO NOT USE MORE THAN 2 doses in 24 hours. STORE THIS MEDICINE in the case provided at room temperature. IF YOUR MEDICINE EXPIRES (the expiration date is printed on the treatment pack), throw it away as instructed. Do not throw away the auto-injector. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you still have a headache, follow your doctor's dosing instructions. Contact your doctor immediately if you are unsure of what to do if you miss a dose. Do not use this medicine more often than prescribed. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use more often than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Overuse of this medicine may cause your headache to become worse. THIS MEDICINE IS NOT INTENDED to prevent or reduce the number of migraine attacks that you experience. IF YOU HAVE A HEADACHE THAT IS DIFFERENT than your usual migraine attacks, check with your doctor before using this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN USING THIS MEDICINE, give your doctor and pharmacist a list of all prescription and non-prescription medicines that you are using to treat and prevent migraine attacks. DO NOT USE ERGOT-CONTAINING MEDICINES within 24 hours of using this medicine. If you have questions about which medicines contain ergot, ask your doctor or pharmacist. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE ALSO TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you have chest pains, heart disease, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeats, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes. Also tell your doctor if you smoke, if you have had a heart attack, if you have liver or kidney disease, are post-menopausal, or have had any seizures. Keep your doctor informed if you develop any of these conditions while you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines can cause dizziness. RARELY, VISION LOSS AND BLINDNESS, sometimes permanent, has been reported with use of this medicine. If you experience unusual vision changes or vision loss, contact your doctor immediately. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
A SIDE EFFECT, that may go away during treatment, is pain or redness at the injection site. If it is continuous or bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience pain or tightness in the jaw, neck or chest; numbness or tingling; heat sensations; flushing; heaviness or pressure; drowsiness; dizziness; unusual vision changes or loss of vision; irregular hearbeart; severe stomach pain; or bloody diarrhea. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY AND DO NOT USE ANY MORE OF THIS MEDICINE if you experience shortness of breath; wheezing; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or develop a skin rash or hives. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include tremor, chest pain, slowed breathing, and seizures.

If this medicine does not stop or decrease the severity of your migraine attack or if your symptoms become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
