Chemical Name: FLUTICASONE (floo-TIK-a-sone)
This medicine is a corticosteroid nasal spray used to treat itching, sneezing, congestion, and runny nose due to allergy and other causes.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are taking certain HIV protease inhibitors (such as ritonavir). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking delavirdine or azole antifungals (such as ketoconazole). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including diarrhea, severe liver problems, asthma, glaucoma, cataracts, active or inactive tuberculosis infection, positive skin test for tuberculosis, a chest infection, untreated fungal or bacterial infections, parasitic or viral infections, measles, chickenpox, herpes simplex in or around the eye, recent vaccination, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR if you have a medical condition requiring long-term use of corticosteroids (such as prednisone). USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have recently had an ulcer in the nose, nasal surgery, or a nasal injury. Use of this medicine in children under age 2 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. AN ADDITIONAL PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET is available with this medicine. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. YOU WILL NEED TO PRIME THIS MEDICINE before you use it for the first time. To prime this medicine, shake it well then spray 6 test sprays into the air away from your face. You will need to re-prime the medicine if it is not used for 30 days or longer or if the cap is left off the bottle for 5 days or longer. SHAKE THIS MEDICINE WELL before each use. TO USE THIS MEDICINE, gently blow your nose. Remove the cap and hold the spray device upright. Tilt your head forward slightly and place the nozzle in one nostril. Point the end of the nozzle toward the side of your nose (away from the center of your nose). Firmly press the mist release button while breathing in gently through your nose, then remove the nozzle from your nose and breathe out through your mouth. Repeat these steps for the other nostril. AFTER YOU FINISH YOUR DOSE, wipe the nozzle with a clean, dry tissue and replace the cap. CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE CAP once a week with a clean, dry tissue. Never try to clean the nozzle with a pin or anything sharp; doing so may damage the nozzle. AVOID GETTING THIS MEDICINE in your eyes or mouth. If you get this medicine in your eyes, rinse them well with water. DISCARD THE SPRAY BOTTLE after you have used the number of sprays stated on the label, even if the container is not empty. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat and light. Store in the upright position with the cap in place. Use this medicine regularly to receive the most benefit from it. Using this medicine at the same time each day will help you to remember. CONTINUE TO USE THIS MEDICINE even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT use 2 doses at once.
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL DAYS to receive the full benefit of this medicine. Do not stop using this medicine without checking with your doctor. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD CHICKENPOX OR MEASLES, avoid contact with anyone who has any of these diseases. Contact your doctor right away if you are exposed to anyone with these conditions. CORTICOSTEROID MEDICINES MAY AFFECT growth rate in children and adolescents in some instances. Your child's growth should be checked regularly by the doctor while using this medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include back pain, cough, headache, minor nosebleed, nasal sore, or sore throat. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience fever, slow wound healing, blurred vision or other unusual vision changes. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience severe or persistent nose or throat pain, or severe or persistent nosebleeds. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
If your symptoms do not improve with regular use of this medicine or if they become worse, check with your doctor. ALWAYS HAVE A SPARE CONTAINER available in case the unit malfunctions or is empty. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
