Tablets
Chemical Name: CARISOPRODOL (kar-eye-soe-PROE-dole), ASPIRIN (AS-pir-in), and CODEINE (KOE-deen)

Common uses
This medicine is a muscle relaxant and analgesic combination used to treat pain and muscle spasms.

Before using
WARNING: Children and teenagers should not use aspirin, aspirin- containing or aspirin-related medicines for flu symptoms or chickenpox without first consulting a doctor. Do not give the flu vaccine to a child or teenager who is taking this medicine. A rare but serious illness known as Reye's syndrome may occur. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking dabigatran, ketorolac, quinidine, sodium oxybate (GHB), or if you have received a live vaccine (eg, varicella, influenza) within the past 6 weeks. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking benzodiazepines (eg, alprazolam), cimetidine, opioid analgesics (eg, hydrocodone), tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline), anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), celecoxib, clopidogrel, heparin, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine), fluvoxamine, HIV protease inhibitors (eg, indinavir), meprobamate, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen), omeprazole, antacids, corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), naltrexone, rifampin, sodium bicarbonate, St. John's wort, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (eg, acetazolamide), insulin, meglitinide antidiabetics (eg, repaglinide), methotrexate, sulfonylureas (eg, glipizide), valproic acid, probenecid, spironolactone, or sulfinpyrazone. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a history of asthma, difficulty urinating, an enlarged prostate, a lung disorder or respiratory depression, diabetes, growths in the nose (eg, nasal polyps), liver or kidney problems, an underactive thyroid, Kawasaki syndrome, heart problems, stomach or intestinal problems (eg, ulcers), intestinal bleeding, recent abdominal surgery, the blood disease porphyria, decreased amounts of vitamin K in the blood, if you have recently had any head injury, bleeding in the brain, brain injury or tumor, increased pressure in the brain, an infection of the brain or nervous system, stroke, seizures, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have chickenpox, flu, or other viral illness; if you are taking anticoagulants (eg, heparin, warfarin) or NSAIDS (eg, ibuprofen); or if you regularly consume alcohol, have a history of alcohol or other substance abuse or dependence, or have had suicidal thoughts. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of serious stomach and intestinal problems (eg, bleeding, perforations, obstruction) due to aspirin use; a history of bleeding or clotting disorders (eg, hemophilia, porphyria, von Willebrand disease); or you have a history of aspirin induced asthma. Use of this medicine in children under age 12 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it, or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or to a carbamate (eg, meprobamate). DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to codeine, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, or oxycodone. A severe allergic reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to this medicine, contact your doctor or pharmacist. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. RARELY, SOME PATIENTS HAVE EXPERIENCED AN UNEXPECTED REACTION WITHIN MINUTES OR HOURS AFTER TAKING THIS MEDICINE. Contact your doctor or seek medical care right away if you develop severe weakness, paralysis of the arms or legs, severe dizziness, loss of coordination, vision changes (such as loss of vision, double vision), joint pain, or mental or mood changes (such as agitation, confusion, disorientation). DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS, DIZZINESS, or fainting. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of these effects. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS of alcohol and other depressants. THIS MEDICINE CONTAINS ASPIRIN. Do not take additional aspirin without checking with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines contain aspirin. If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take this medicine. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Alcohol use combined with this medicine may increase your risk for stomach bleeding. THIS MEDICINE CONTAINS ASPIRIN which has been linked to Reye's syndrome. DO NOT GIVE THIS MEDICINE TO CHILDREN OR TEENAGERS during or after chickenpox, flu, or other viral infections without checking with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist for more information. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using this medicine while you are pregnant. THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED during the last 3 months (third trimester) of pregnancy because it may cause harm to the fetus. THIS MEDICINE IS FOUND in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, this medicine may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; headache; indigestion; lightheadedness; nausea; mild stomach pain or upset; or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience black, tarry, or bloody stools; blurred vision; fainting; fast heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; loss of coordination; mood or mental changes (eg, agitation, depression, irritability); ringing in the ears; seizures; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, or stomach pain; severe or persistent trouble sleeping; shallow or very slow breathing; tremors; unusual bruising or bleeding; vomit that looks like coffee grounds; or wheezing. AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO THIS MEDICINE IS UNLIKELY, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, fever, ringing in ears, confusion, unusual drowsiness or dizziness, irregular heartbeat, seizures, and loss of consciousness.
