Chemical Name: CALCITRIOL (KAL-si-TRYE-ol)

Common uses
This medicine is a vitamin D analog used for treating mild to moderate plaque psoriasis. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking medicines that raise the serum calcium level (eg, thiazide diuretics), calcium supplements, or vitamin D. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a calcium metabolism disorder (eg, juvenile osteoporosis), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you use phototherapy (eg, tanning beds, sun lamps) or if you spend time in the sun. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. APPLY A THIN LAYER OF THIS MEDICINE and gently rub it into the skin until it is absorbed. WASH YOUR HANDS immediately after using this medicine unless your hands are part of the treated area. THIS MEDICINE IS FOR USE ON THE SKIN ONLY. If you get it in your eyes, nose, vagina, or mouth, wash it off right away. Do not apply to eyes, lips, or face. DO NOT WRAP OR BANDAGE the treated area unless your doctor tells you to. STORE THIS MEDICINE at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not freeze or refrigerate. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of this medicine, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT use 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE IF you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine. This medicine may cause you to become sunburned more easily. AVOID THE SUN, SUNLAMPS, OR TANNING BOOTHS while using this medicine. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time. TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU USE any other medicines or cleansers on your skin. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU THINK YOU MAY BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using this medicine while you are pregnant. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS FOUND in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you use this medicine, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
A SIDE EFFECT that may occur while using this medicine is mild skin discomfort at the application site. If it continues or is bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience new or worsening skin irritation (eg, blistered skin, flushing, itching, burning, severe discomfort or redness); or symptoms of hypercalcemia (weakness, nausea, constipation, excessive thirst, confusion, fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat). AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. If you take too much
IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED.
