Chemical Name: GOSERELIN (GOE-se-rel-in)
This medicine is an analog of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) used to treat prostate cancer. It may also be used to treat endometriosis or breast cancer.
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.
This medicine is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office or clinic. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed on the prescription label. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, contact your doctor immediately.
KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are being treated with this medicine. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. This medicine should cause menstrual periods to stop. Contact your doctor if you continue to have menstrual periods. You may still become pregnant even though your monthly period stops. Birth control pills will not prevent pregnancy. Use another form of birth control. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.
IF YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR TREATMENT OF CANCER: SIDE EFFECTS include hot flashes, change in sexual ability, worsening of pain for several days, decreased appetite, dizziness, difficulty sleeping, or nausea. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience swelling of feet or legs, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience severe headache, vision changes, severe drowsiness, unusual or one-sided weakness. IF YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR TREATMENT OF ENDOMETRIOSIS: SIDE EFFECTS include hot flashes, vaginal itching or irritation, headache, change in sexual desire, sweating, acne, increased breast size, temporary increase in pain, difficulty sleeping, nausea, increased hair growth, dizziness, or change in voice. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience swelling of feet or legs, mood changes, abdominal or back pain, or leg cramps. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience severe headache, vision changes, severe drowsiness, unusual or one-sided weakness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. Do not miss any doses of this medicine. While a delay of a few days is permissible, try to keep to the dosing schedule. FOR FEMALE PATIENTS, missing one or more doses may cause breakthrough menstrual bleeding or ovulation with the possibility of pregnancy. Notify your doctor if this occurs.
