Chemical Name: IPRATROPIUM BROMIDE (i-pra-TROE-pee-um BROE-mide)
This medicine is an anticholinergic used to treat a runny nose caused by allergies or a cold. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking other anticholinergics (such as hyoscyamine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including glaucoma, prostate problems, difficulty urinating, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is used in the nose. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. Pump the sprayer 7 times before using each new container. To pump the sprayer, hold the bottle with your thumb at the base and your index and middle fingers on the white shoulder area and press your thumb firmly and quickly against the bottle. If you do not use this medicine for more than 24 hours, the sprayer will need to be pumped twice before using it again. If you do not use this medicine for more than 7 days, the sprayer will need to be pumped 7 times again before use. TO USE THIS MEDICINE, blow your nose to clear your nostrils. Close 1 nostril with your finger against the side of the nose. Insert the nasal tip into the other nostril and point the tip toward the back and outer side of the nose. Pump the sprayer into your nose, sniff deeply, breathe out through your mouth, and remove the spray bottle from your nose. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. Take the rest of your doses for the day at evenly spaced intervals. Do NOT use 2 doses at once.
DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more doses of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes. IF YOU GET THIS MEDICINE IN YOUR EYE, flush your eye with cool tap water. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include headache, dry nose, or nose irritation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience nosebleeds, blurred vision, eye pain, or trouble urinating. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
