Capsules
Chemical Name: CYANOCOBALAMIN (SYE-an-oh-koe-BAL-a-min), VITAMIN C (VYE-ta-min C), FOLIC ACID (FOE-lik AS-id), IRON (EYE-urn)

Common uses
This medicine is a vitamin, folic acid, and iron combination used to prevent and treat certain types of anemia (eg, caused by low blood iron levels, poor nutrition). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using
Accidental overdose of products that contain iron is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children younger than 6 years old. Keep this and all medicines out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, call the poison control center or a doctor at once. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking fluorouracil, bisphosphonates (eg, alendronate), cephalosporins (eg, cefdinir), hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), levodopa, methyldopa, penicillamine, quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline), or thyroid hormones (eg, levothyroxine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including pernicious anemia, a history of blood problems (eg, porphyria, thalassemia), peptic ulcer, stomach or bowel problems (eg, ulcerative colitis), glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, bleeding problems, multiple blood transfusions, dialysis, a history of seizures, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have iron metabolism problems (eg, hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis) or high levels of iron in your blood. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for taking this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. If you also take bisphosphonates (eg, alendronate), cephalosporins (eg, cefdinir), methyldopa, penicillamine, quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin),or tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline), ask your doctor or pharmacist how to take them with this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Laboratory tests, including hematocrit, hemoglobin levels, and blood iron levels, may be performed while you use this medicine to monitor your condition or check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY AFFECT CERTAIN LAB TEST RESULTS, such as tests used to check for blood in the stool. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any medicines containing folic acid and iron. DO NOT TAKE large doses of vitamins (megadoses or megavitamin therapy) while taking this medicine unless directed to by your doctor. Some brands of this medicine may contain tartrazine dye (FD & C Yellow No 5). If you have ever had an allergic reaction to tartrazine, ask your pharmacist if your product has tartrazine in it. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include constipation, dark or green stools, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience black, tarry, or bloody stools, or severe or persistent stomach pain. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, hives, itching, severe dizziness, trouble breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

If you take too much
ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6 years of age. In case of accidental overdose, call a doctor or poison control center immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include black, tarry, or bloody stools, blue or unusually pale skin, drowsiness or dizziness, fast heartbeat, increased thirst or urination, seizures, severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain, sluggishness, vomiting blood, or weakness.

Additional information
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of reach of children and pets. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
