Chemical Name: OXYBUTYNIN (OX-i-BUE-ti-nin)
Ditropan Xl 10mg is an anticholinergic agent used to treat muscle spasms of the bladder (overactive bladder) and the symptoms associated with it. These symptoms may include the inability to control urination (incontinence), feeling that one has to urinate (urgency), as well as having to go the bathroom often (frequency). It may also be used in certain children with overactive bladder muscle caused by certain conditions (such as spina bifida). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
BEFORE USING DITROPAN XL 10mg: Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Ditropan Xl 10mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking bisphosphonates (such as alendronate), anticholinergics (such as scopolamine), azole antifungals (such as ketoconazole), macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), or phenothiazines (such as chlorpromazine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR if you have a history of heart problems (such as heart failure, fast or irregular heartbeat), high blood pressure, nervous system problems, esophagus problems (such as reflux disease or inflammation), stomach or bowel problems (such as colitis, inflammation, narrowing), hiatal hernia, liver or kidney problems, myasthenia gravis, enlarged prostate, overactive thyroid, glaucoma, or if you are at risk for glaucoma. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including trouble urinating, very poor health, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF DITROPAN XL 10mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have bladder blockage; certain stomach or bowel problems (such as blockage, decreased muscle movement); tightening of the esophagus; uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma; heart problems caused by severe bleeding; if you are unable to urinate; or if you cannot swallow the tablet whole. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Ditropan Xl 10mg. Use of Ditropan Xl 10mg in children under age 6 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving Ditropan Xl 10mg to your child.
Follow the directions for using Ditropan Xl 10mg provided by your doctor. SWALLOW WHOLE. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. Ditropan Xl 10mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. TAKE DITROPAN XL 10mg WITH A FULL GLASS OF liquid. STORE DITROPAN XL 10mg at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Take Ditropan Xl 10mg regularly to receive the most benefit from it. Ditropan Xl 10mg works best if it is taken at the same time each day. CONTINUE TO TAKE DITROPAN XL 10mg even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF DITROPAN XL 10mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT USE DITROPAN XL 10mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU DRINK ALCOHOL while you are using Ditropan Xl 10mg. DITROPAN XL 10mg WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants. Ditropan Xl 10mg may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Ditropan Xl 10mg. Using Ditropan Xl 10mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Ditropan Xl 10mg can cause decreased sweating. DO NOT BECOME OVERHEATED in hot weather or during exercise or other activities since heat stroke may occur. Contact your doctor if you have been exposed to high temperatures and you develop fever; flushing; hot, dry skin; severe or persistent headache; dizziness; sudden fatigue; fast heartbeat; seizures; or fainting. YOU MAY OCCASIONALLY NOTICE the tablet shell in your stool. This is normal and not a cause for concern. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING DITROPAN XL 10mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: It is not known if Ditropan Xl 10mg can cause harm to the fetus. IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Ditropan Xl 10mg during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF DITROPAN XL 10mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Ditropan Xl 10mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Ditropan Xl 10mg include blurred vision; constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry eyes, nose, skin, or mouth; headache; indigestion; nausea; runny nose; stomach pain or upset; taste changes; trouble sleeping; or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. To relieve dry mouth, suck on sugarless hard candy or ice chips, chew sugarless gum, drink water, or use saliva substitute. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY is you experience confusion; difficult or painful urination; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; hallucinations; mental or mood changes (eg, agitation); seizures; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; or vision problems. An allergic reaction to Ditropan Xl 10mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include coma, delirium, fever, flushing, hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, paralysis, seizures, severe or persistent dizziness or headache, tremor, trouble breathing, or vomiting.
DO NOT SHARE DITROPAN XL 10mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE DITROPAN XL 10mg for other health conditions. KEEP DITROPAN XL 10mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING DITROPAN XL 10mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
